I am not your "typical Californian" who sounds like a surfer or Valley Girl, (after all, I'm a midwesterner/sourtherner!!) but this new study book by John MacArthur is "Way Cool!" [IMG]
It's called "MacArthur's Quick Reference Guide to the Bible." The one we got from Grace to You ministries is the Student's Edition, paperback, that retails for $12.99.
The Guide is a combination of a Bible handbook, short commentary and Q & A book. It begins with an Introduction to the Bible, How we got the Bible, How to study the Bible, and a Chronology of the Bible. Then, in each book it gives the author & date of writing, key people in the book, background & setting, key doctrines, examples in that book of God's character (holiness, sovereignty, etc.), Christ in that book, key words, a quick overview and frequently asked questions about that book of the Bible.
This is a great gift for your pastor, for a young person graduating from High School, for a young man or woman attending Bible college or seminary...or your wife for her birthday or Mother's Day! (Hint, hint!! ;) )
Tho' we are of a slightly different "flavor" than MacArthur (he's Dispensational, we aren't) it's so rich with good teaching & helps that a slight differing of opinions can be looked past easily.
Thumbs up for MacArthur's Quick Reference Guide to the Bible!
