I am curious as to who is waging this culture war, and who is defining it.

I see that Bill O'Reilly's new book is called Culture Warrior. I hear Rush Limbaugh talk about values on his radio program. I also noticed last night that, of all people, Jeff Gannon is fighting the culture war as well on his web site (has a section on the culture war). Let's not forget the laughable book Godless by Ann Coulter. Doesn't Newt Gingrich have a book on this subject?

Do these people speak for those of you who consider yourself a part of "the Religious Right?"

    Just curious,
    BiR

These are people that talk the talk but don't walk the walk, it would be impossible to give them any credence. They are nothing but overaged schoolyard bullies using their verbal assaults on anyone who opposes them. Why anyone would think that these bunch of hypocrits are capable of setting moral standards is beyond me.

Is Coulter considered religious at all? Newt seems more pragmatic than religious.

Dobson seems like a culture warrior.

==I think it is between the political left and the political right. O'Reilly frames it as traditional verses progressive. I believe that those on the right are defining it since those on the left would rather not talk about it.

==Yes, that is O'Reilly's new book. I have not purchased a copy since his first books were "ok" and I am really not on the politically active side of things. Social/Political activism gains little ground. However people like O'Reilly really believe in their cause and, in theory anyway, I agree with them.

==I think Newt just released a book on the faith of the American nation. The book is called "Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Role of Faith in Our Nation's History and Future". It looks like a history book (his field). It probably falls in line with Michael Novak's "Washington's God".

==I don't really consider myself part of the religious right since it is more of a political movement. I agree with their theology, and their moral concerns, but I don't believe social/political activism will solve any of those problems.

Bill O'Reilly does not speak for me, at all. He sees every issue thru the prism of the RCC, and I don't think he's all that smart in the first place. he's just loud.

Coulter is an entertainer, and I'm not ashamed to number myself among her fans. But I would model my walk with God on her words, so no, she does not speak for me.

And Limbaugh's show is very informative, whether you agree with him or not. If you listen to him every day you will know what is going on in the political landscape, even if you hate what he's saying. No other show packs as much info. But I don't believe Limbaugh is saved, so no, he doesn't speak for me.

To equate pill popping, self indulgent, worldly slob Limbaugh with moral values or fighting a cultural war is the pinnacle of outrage. It is beyond me why that name even surfaces on a Christian board.

Yes, there is a culture war. However it is between Christians and the world. The focus is between those who focus on themselves and those who care for others. It is between those who love God and those who love the things of this world. It is seen in everyday actions. (Kind of like shooting someone over a Sony Playstation 3, or whatever it is called). It is between the eternal and the material. It is average, everyday Christians, trying to take care of their families and care for others, verses the crowd who are worried about their next party or entertainment event. It is like black and white. Yes, it is a real war.

What is beyond me is the bafoons who are mentioned above as being on the correct side of this. Come on people, the heros of this is you and me, not bums like Limbaugh, politicians, and electronic preachers.

She has a relatively new book called Godless: The Church of Liberalism in which she appears to carry the banner for "Judeo-Christianity".

While I haven't read this nor any other book she has written, the few excerpts I have seen from it don't tend to support your contention.

She doesn't seem to place herself in that position.

The very title of her book suggests it. According to Ms. Coulter liberals are Godless. Since we know that the opposite of liberal is conservative it can be inferred that she is saying conservatives are Godfull.

Here are some quotes from the first chapter of the book:

"They deny what we know about ourselves: that we are moral beings in God’s image."

"The core of the Judeo-Christian tradition says that we are utterly and distinctly apart from other species. We have dominion over the plants and the animals on Earth. God gave it to us, it’s ours—as stated succinctly in the book of Genesis."

"Our religion says that human progress proceeds from the spark of divinity in the human soul; their religion holds that human progress is achieved through sex and death."

"Our book is Genesis. Their book is Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring,"

Actually , I would put Ann Coulter in the same catagory as Madonna. Both have a knowledge of the Christian faith but neither choose to endeaver to live it out and neither are worthy of carrying a banner that promotes Christian values.

I would concur except for the minor exception that Madonna claims to be a Qabbalist and it would seem Ann claims to be a Christian.

I agree about the title, at least.

One thing I have noticed is that athiests do tend to be liberals.

But of course, that doesn't mean all liberals are athiests.

Still, I tend to agree with her assertion that liberalism, like athieism, is actually a religion unto itself and for the most part does lend itself more to Godlessness than Godliness.

Madonna was raised Catholic and you are right that she is a Qabbalist but she does understand Christian values, I would suspect that she turned to the Qabbalist belief because she has chosen to rebel against God. Ann Coulter doesn't act like a devoted Christian so it hard to tell if she is really one or not.I just wouldn't turn to either one as saying that these are persons that represent all that I believe in.
