    Hosea

Hosea's ministry occurred in the middle of the 8th century making him a contemporary of Amos and Jonah. These were the final days of the Northern Kingdom when 25 kings ruled in rather rapid succession (2Kings 15:8-17:41). His ministry spanned about 40 years.

Whether or not Hosea personally authored this Book is indeterminable. This work is the first of the "Book of the Twelve," or the Minor prophets, so called because of the brevity of their message.

Chapters 1-3 of Hosea outline Hosea's personal life which acted as a symbol to convey God's message. Hosea married an adulterous wife, Gomer, and their three children are given symbolic names. Throughout these Passages, Gomer is driven away and taken back representing the relationship between God and Israel.
