    Spirit of Religion....

The church at Ephesus had "left their first love" (Rev. 2:4). When we read in Acts 19 at "first works" and "first love" we find certain truths.

The church at Ephesus were baptizing in water, laying hands on the people for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, magnifying God in tongues, casting out Demons, healing with prayer cloths, and being evicted from old way.

Did religion take over? Did their fire, passion and love go out? What was missing? was it the power of God; demons were no longer leaving, tongues were absent and miracles were simply a memory? A loveless routine of religious works replaced the power and passion of the Holy Spirit.

How many of our churches today are blinded by the demon of religion? To spiritual things? Just religious activities and traditions with no power!

The church at Smyrna endured persecution, and many members suffered martyrdom. The spirit of intimidation tries to strike fear in the hearts of believers. Satan tries to frighten us away from faithfulness to God and His Word.

Just as Peter cowed down to the voice of a little servant girl...churches today are silent and cowed down before the world and its governments.

Looks like they were against "false apostles"
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Baptists today are also against lying false teachers today:wavey:

This ...they understood correctly:thumbsup:They knew the apostles and their signs were special. You speak of the "demon" of religion.Stop listening to the liars on tbn.

Spirit of compromise is another stronghold...

Most churches operate in a community of environment that is controlled by Satan rather than God. Compromise is not the answer we cannot become comfortable with the sin around us!

We must recognize the conflict. The armor of God is needed in the middle of war. Most of all, the church must go forward under the name and banner of Jesus, never operating in their own strength, for in the flesh the enemy could find weakness.

We must repent of compromise. The church at Pergamos had some weaknesses to be dealt with. There were doctrinal problems, along with problems with some of their deacons and leadership.

They tolerated the mess they were in by overlooking the sin in their own camp. Jesus called them to repentence.

In keeping with the spirit of Balaam, too often today money has become the goal and prize of many in the church. Popular preaching has replaced prophetic preaching. Image has replaced anointing, and the church is reduced to no more than a place where pop psychology tickles the ears of its parishioners on Sundays. The image-makers and the politically correct have dulled the sword of the churches and its men of God.

We must rely on Christ. We must cling to the Word of God as our weapon-it has a power that is supernatural and effective against the onslaughts of Satan. Our weapons are not carnal but mighty in God! ...and satan can be defeated by the power of the Word.

Overcomers are promised gifts. Jesus..His very presence! He would set among them a white stone, promising acquittal, acceptance, and acclaim. The new name upon this stone was Jesus.

    Spirit of Jezebel (control)..

A war goes on in today's church, and the battle lines are drawn. One of the most powerful spiritis at work in this ongoing battle is the spirit of control.

Jezebel hated the prophets of God! Her character was wicked, controlling, sexually immoral, mjurderous and demonic! This same spirit was still operating in today's church in Rev.2:20. iN EVERY congregation we find those who want to control, manipulate, and subvert the men and wemon of God.

In many churches today, there are pockets of power that think they control the agenda, and in some cases they do. It can take the form of a board of deacons, elders, or a group of people in a higher social economic status. Sometimes groups form based on their length of membership. Each local congregation can put a stop to it.

    Very true!

One thing about this spirit of control is an unwillingness to cohabit peacefully.

When we find the spirit of Jezebel operating, we will also find an "Ahab" nearby, or someone in leadership who is alowing the spirit access and control.

Your thoughts closely mirror those of TBN personality Ron Phillips:

Ron Phillips, Charisma Magazine, July 2010:

    It's uncanny.

Jezebel uses the tool of manipulation. She killed to obtain the things she needed to gain more power.

When this spirit begans to maifest in the church, it seeks a high seat in the church or a place of dominance. Maybe someone that wants to teach or lead, usually leading them astray!

Moses and Aaron had to deal with this in Numbrs 16:1-3. Moses took action immediatly....and you know the rest of the story.

It says this spirit hates prophets, the true leaders of God. She can not control them...so she kills them.

Jezabel also hates the preaching of the Word. She will either reduce the messenger or the message.

This controlling spirit also hates the praise of the church and the preeminence of Christ. Colossians 1:18 and 3 John 9 talks of preminence.

We should not hate the person that is controlled by this spirit of Jezabel, but recognize that it is a spiritual power-one that GOD must fight.

Love to pray this when it is recognized..."O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against theis great multitude that is coming against us; ont do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You" (2 Chron. 20:12)

Yes! This is where some of this comes from! Love to listen to Ron Phillips! Have you read any of his books?
Our teacher at church taught us out of Ron's book. I did not know it was on internet...well then everyone can read from there and save me from typing from my Sunday school notes...

Aha, I thought the "stronghold" terminology sounded familiar, because I've heard it before. It's right out of the charismatic movement, which finds demonic spirits under every rock.

I do not believe that believers can be controlled by demonic spirits. Thus, to accuse one of being controlled by a spirit of ____(take your pick), is to question their salvation.

I'm also not sure we ought to be following the advice of anyone who embraces the charismatic error, as displayed for all to see on TBN.

No christian can be totally taken over by demons, but every Christian can be oppressed, harassed, and dominated by them.

There are several scriptures that show that we fight against them. Eph. 6 talks of wrestling against the powers of darkness. Satan can attack the mind and body of Christians.

I understand that there are some charismatic Baptists. I doubt if there are any in my church, or they would have already made themselves known. They would have sought to infiltrate the church with their view, and we would have kicked them out long ago.

I believe that believers can be attacked by demons and be oppressed by demons. But I don't believe they can be possessed or controlled by demons.

    Can sin control a believer?

Most TRUE spirit filled christians do not push there views on anyone. They live it and present truth!

I do not believe in forcing any of the Bible on anyone! We present it and people can decide for themselves.
