    Greetings Everyone,

I have been out of town on business/pleasure for the weekend. I was in the airport surfing the web, and came across this story.
    Here is the link.

    Comments anyone?

    Regards,
    BiR

    From the link:

"CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller reports that the pardons Wednesday bring to 58 the number of pardons granted by Mr. Bush.

By comparison, his father, former President George H.W. Bush, granted 74 in four years; former President Bill Clinton granted 396 in eight years; former President Ronald Reagan did 393 in eight; former President Jimmy Carter did 534 in four. And former President Richard Nixon, who got one of Mr. Ford's 382 pardons, granted 863, reports Knoller.

Some pardons, like the one Mr. Ford gave Nixon in 1974, protect recipients from going to jail or reduce their sentences. But Mr. Bush has granted clemency mainly to allow people who committed relatively minor offenses and served their sentences long ago to clear their names."

I don't see much significant here other than President Bush isn't pardoning anywhere near as many people as his predecessors.

What do you think is significant in the story, BiR?

I was interested in what everyone thought about the number of pardons handed out by the Presidents. I had no idea that Nixon gave out so many, and that George H.W. Bush gave out so few. I would have guessed that Clinton gave out more pardons, and was genuinely surprised.

Since you brought up the topic of Bush's pardons, do you not find it amazing that these people received a pardon from the President? That certainly is an interesting cast of characters. I am sure that some among us would support the President regardless of who is pardoned.

    Regards, KenH,

Rusty Lawrence Elliott, Mount Pleasant, Tenn., making counterfeit money, sentenced April 26, 1991, to a year and a day in prison, two years supervised release and a $500 fine.

The pardons are not as much a matter of curiosity as to wonder how Ol' Rusty paid his fine. Do you think he used the real stuff or the fake money?

Well, BIR, I find it curious that a bomber and some drug smugglers were pardoned, considering the government is fighting a war on terror and drugs. Maybe I just don't get it.

None of us will ever get it until we know the full details of the cases.
