Christians vary greatly in how much power and influence they ascribe to Satan or “the devil.” What are your positions?

"If the Son has made you free, you shall be free indeed".

It is on the basis of that verse that I believe that Christians cannot be cursed.

I think the biggest mistake people make about Satan is to think of him as the opposite of God.

This answer: "The Ruler of Hell" is totally wrong.
Satan is NOT the warden of Hell; Satan is to be the chief
convict bound there.

One of my hobbies is to oppose what I call the "bogeyman" theory of Satan.

He's not everywhere, he isn't all-powerful, he isn't all-knowing, and he cannot do anything that God does not permit.

My daughter made an interesting comment the other day about this. She said, "Did you ever notice that most of the sins today are the same sin that happened in heaven when Satan went from Angel to Out-Cast? Pride, and the believe we could know as much as God is the sin of Eden, and the sin of Satan, and its the sin of every man and woman who says they don't need God."

I don't believe a saved person can be possessed by Satan.

I do believe that Satan is the ruler of this world right now (the Prince of Darkness and the ruler of principalities).

If you don't believe that - take a long look at the world around you... [IMG]

There are 2 really interesting answers so far. One is "Everything we need to know about Satan is told us in the Bible"--> just 56%. That could well be an indication of why there has historically been so much preposterous speculation about Satan-- red suit, 2 (only 2) horns, a fiddling contest for the player's soul-- if we need to know more about him than the Bible tells us. If we think so, inevitably we will turn myths and nightmares and project these fearful, outlandish, or even funny attributes to him.

Also interesting are the snake questions. 56% say he was a snake at least once, "but that only as a masquerade," while 22% say he was a "literal snake" at least once. How does this apply to literalism about the Genesis story?

I said he was a snake at least once, "but that only as a masquerade.

Literal snakes don't talk...

I not only take Genesis literally, but the whole Bible, although there are a lot of spirtual applications, I do not think that takes away from the literal application at all.

As far as the red suit and horns goes, I dont think so!

What I suppose it depends on though is if Lucifer and Satan are one, if they are then Lucifer is supposed to be the most beautifull angel there was.

satan has been given too much credit, many of our sins are due to our sin nature. satan does not have to bother to try and influence us--if it is not broke why fix it !!! [IMG]
