Bus driver says he was fired over Planned Parenthood dispute

    By Dana Ford, CNN
    July 21, 2010 6:41 p.m. EDT

What would you have done ?

I think he should have expected such a scenario.
You're a company's driver driving the company's vehicle in company time, you do what you're supposed to do.
Another matter if he owned the bus, or the vehicle, in which case it'll be the city or state franchising authority or whatever it's called he's gonna have to contend with.

    But that's just me.
    What about you ?

This sort of thing gets up my nose. People bang on about their rights, presumably the bus driver does not have any rights as an employee of the bus company, the baby certainly has no rights....

I think the bus driver was very brave...good luck with his court cse

Everyone has rights--except those who stand on their beliefs and convictions against what they consider to be immoral. In this day and age, morality has nothing to do with what is right or wrong. Murdering her unborn baby is now a woman's right, and no one has the right to say otherwise.

The bus driver's job is to drive the bus. He could express his views, but that does not relieve him of doing his duty ... driving the bus.

Would you drive a Catholic to church?
Would you drive a Moslem to a mosque?
Would you drive a liberal to a political protest gathering?

I worked for a cable company here in Maryland once, and I get calls from customers who want to order a movie from the porn channels.
Do I disconnect the call ?
Do I refuse to turn the channel on for him because I believe porn is immoral ?

I worked for a pest control company, and sometimes my clients would be two gay couples living together.
Do I refuse to service their residence ?
Do I refuse to go into their bedroom and treat that area because of what I imagine they probably do in that bedroom on that bed ?

I work the phones, and sometimes I get calls from some idiot who thinks that the "f" word and the motherf words are everyday, common usage English words, what do I do, tell him I'll have him helped by another agent because it is against my religious conviction to even listen to those words ?

Yeah, I agree with what CBT is saying.
Our religious convictions are ours, not the world's.
Our sins were taken by Christ unto Himself, not the world's.
They will answer for their sins.
We have had someone answer for ours already.

I think this is a fair treatment of the issue.

Abortion is the law of the land, unfortunate as it may be. And how would he know she was even going to have an abortion. Doesn't seem like something most drivers would ask or most women admit at the time. The whole thing is kinda weird.

    Just drive.

I wouldn't work for a company that has me selling porn. Maybe you think it is OK to work for a company that sells porn.

Bad example, you aren't enabling their sinful lifestyle.

I'd tell them once that if they don't clean up their language that the call would be disconnected. If they didn't, the call would be disconnected. I've worked phones and have done this.

The bus driver took a bold, and proper, stand in this case. Of course, the bus company is also fully within their rights to fire him for it.

Again you speak falsely. I have always said that I am against abortion. I have never said I am pro-abortion. Are you trying to derail the thread ... again?

    I will accept an apology.

The driver has every right to deny driving the lady. The company has every right to fire him for doing so. What he can not expect to do is to refuse to do the job he was hired for and expect to keep the job. I am all for standing on one's convictions, but this modern era where we think we can stand without any dispuption of our comfy life is crazy. Christ said to pickup our cross, not to sue someone else and make them carry it.

Also, how does an ordained christian minister justify suing someone???

That is an evil thing to say preacher. Just because you don't like CTB, doesn't allow you to accuse him of something he has not done, or does the truth not matter to you?

This driver knew what his job entailed. He should have voiced his concern before taking the job, and if his job required him to violate his conscience, he should not have taken it in the first place.

Also, if he truly did this for religions reasons, why the lawsuit?

Looks like this man might have decided it would be easier to get a lump sum of money rather than work for it.

These have no moral equivelance with the murder of the unborn.

Did the passenger say she was going to have an abortion, or is it something the driver assumed?

We don't know that information. For me, it wouldn't make a different. Planned Parenthood is an evil organization and I wouldn't transport anyone there.

Well, in your world there wouldn't be any Christian bus drivers, or any Christian Taxi drivers.

BTW, if a woman in passing you along the street, mentioned to you that she was going to Planned Parenthood, what would you do? Would you tackle and kidnap her to keep her from going there?

In your world, Christians are just like everybody else.

In God's world we are told we are a peculiar people.

Of course not and you are ridiculous. Driving someone some place is enabling them and is entirely different.

In your situation I would witness to the women and explain how abortion is murder. If she then made the choice to deny God and go there anyway, well that's on her shoulders.

Would you drive someone to murder your wife, witness to them, and then drop them off to complete the murder?
