What does it mean to do this? We need to do this more as no one likes to be lied about, torn down, and such. How can people be more edifying?

    "outright lie" = harsh words

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

I think if we are honest, the vast majority of us who are here are not here so we can be encouraged or edified. We are here b/c we like the arguments. We like to talk to people here the way we wish we could talk in the real world.

If you want people to do something you need to be doing it yourself. No excuses.

Also, you set yourself up by being offended at the slightest disagreement with your posts. Not everything is an insult. You are thin skinned and overly sensitive. People are not going to agree with your every post just because you whine about the board being edifying. If it is not your cup of tea then don't come. From what I understand you are a few other boards where you have the same problems. What is the common factor in each case?

Lol, I think it's called venting, and much truth to what you say. I think few come here to listen, most just want to be heard. It fills a need, I guess.

This is what you wrote, addressing everyone.

Then you turned around and responded with:
That makes your original post look like it should be re-worded:

On a board such as this, it means mutual dialogue. It also means presenting and defending one’s ideas, legitimately considering the positions of others, and having the patience to calmly walk other’s through your own thought process. As this is a Christian board, I think that it means holding ideas and views to the standard of Scripture. It means not carrying our feelings on our sleeves and allowing others to question our beliefs. It means answering others who do question our beliefs. It means listening to others and asking questions. It means finishing what you start and sticking with the conversation. Most importantly it means the willingness to change your belief when it does not align with Scripture (aka, edification) without reverting to a child and walking away or posting pictures of animals.
They can explain how they arrived at their conclusions via Scripture.
They can refrain from adopting and laying claim to the beliefs of others (own your belief).
They can be respectful and not resort to calling people liars (even if they feel that way).
They can be open to questions and appreciative of correction.
They can listen as well as post.
They can and will back up claims that they make when asked (e.g., your Acts 17 comment)

I've more ideas, but that's probably enough for now.

I’m here for many reasons. Sometimes just to argue, but sometimes for entertainment. Sometimes to explore my own beliefs and have them torn apart so that I can put them back together right. Initially I joined to have my understanding critiqued and ask questions of people who hold different views (this is still a purpose for me). Mostly I joined because it is difficult to find people I can talk to face to face about many topics we discuss here.

Most of us enjoy anonymity here, but I did not join to talk to people the way I would not in the real world. We have not left the real world and anonymity does not mean unaccountable. I … and my wife agrees…find, however, that I am much harsher and less patient than I was 10 years ago (aka, I don’t suffer fools as well as I once did).

Short answer is treat others as you would want to be treated. I think JonC gave a lot of good examples. This is a board for dialogue not monologues which means there will be disagreement. We should also realize that disagreement does not mean it's not edifying. Sometimes the most edifying thing we can do for someone is disagree with them and tell them why.

It is difficult for me to understand the mindset of some (nobody specifically) who consider others' disagreement to be a personal insult. I can only think that it must be based on some level of narcissism.

I have come to believe once some members see what your stand is on a certain subject like free will vs free grace, the opponent's to what you believe are against you on everything you say.

Well that is very much the world we live in today. People cannot understand that disagreement is not hate. That is what they are taught with all their trigger warnings and free speech zones.

No, but when Home Depot told me that the dishwasher I ordered had to be delivered because they don't keep them in stock I explained how pleased I was that Lowes did...and how where you go in the store should not be so far from where you go out because either way you walk a mile.
