Context is determined by putting the verses in context -- which means with the entire passage. Any questions are then to be researched within the Bible itself, first, so that God's Word is allowed to explain God's Word.

When you clip bits of sentences like "they were appointed" and neglect to say what they were appointed to, for instance, that is taking it out of context.

I am sad to know that you 'preached it for years' because I was hoping you were a new believer or at least a young one. But if you have preached for years with the attitude you have you have not been representing Christ, but rather yourself to the people.

Helen, don't go away. I'm signing off now. I will post your comments in their entirety on my blog as soon as I get a chance. I'm not as mean as you think. My comments were provocative today, and I don't apologize for that; but my intentions are to spur you to think, not to hurt you. In fact, if it offends you, I will remove the entire post from my blog. Ther are plenty of more public people to pick on like Mr. Rogers.

But don't take this wrong, I'm not backing down one iota from the debate.

And by the way, Helen, I say this as a Christian brother - make sure you are getting your understanding of God from scripture, and not your own preconception. Worship the God of the Bible.

    God bless!
