Arthur Farstad was general editor of the NKJV and co-author of the Hodges-Farstad Majority Text and was retained to begin work on the HCSB. After his death, the work passed on to a colleague.

The HCSB follows the electic text.

Since the massive failure of the Bishop's Bible, the Anglicans (45 baby-baptizing, saved??, men) created the Anglican Version. Often abbreviated as the AV.

Baptists rejected it. Pilgrims would not allow it brought to American soil. They did not want such a version that was pro-monarchy and pro-Anglican church.

How Baptists have come now to claim "inspiration" status for such a translation remains a puzzlement to me.

I'm assuming you are referring to the King James Bible here?

Well, God sure put his stamp of approval on the AV by how the AV was mightily used from 1611 to 1950.

Are we going to deny that God did not mightily bless the AV in mission and evangelistic work and in other areas?

How folks miss this remains a puzzlement to me - I'll take that back - I do understand how it remains a puzzlement to many.

AVBunyan: //I'm assuming you are referring to the King James Bible here?//

Actually he isn't referring to the KJB. I know I have no idea
what the KJB is. I did a poll once ;)

The first page is over here:

    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=30617

The results of the poll are:

View Poll Results: Which edition(s) of the King James Versions (KJVs)
    1. KJV1611 Edition ---------------------------- 12.50%
    2. KJV1762 Edition (Oxford) ------------------- 0%
    3. KJV1769 Edition (Cambridge) ------------- 8.33%
    4. KJV USA Editions ----------------------------- 4.17%
    5. 1&2 -------------------- 0%
    6. 2&3 -------------------- 4.17%
    7. 3&4 -------------------- 0%
    8. 4&5 -------------------- 0%
    9. all of the above ----------------------------- 50.00%
    10. none of the above, don't know, etc --- 20.83%
    Voters: 24.

Because non-KJVOs could vote, it is apparent that
half the general BB population thinks the KJB is any
    of the KJVs

Recall that Baptists are Congerational in Polity so
YES, it is important what individual Baptists believe and
    how they congegrate together.
Baptists have no KING but Jesus -- no POPE
    (Latin for POPPA) but Jesus!

Mexdeaf: //I am wondering what 'essentially literal' means,
especially as opposed to the other methods.//

It should mean a lot to people who insist on trying to first
understand every Bible passage as literal.
My favorite 'Bible' resource is found at:

    http://www.godstruthfortoday.org/Library/bullinger/FiguresOfSpeech.html#omission

and is about Figures of Speech. I think Bullinger was a pastor
so he concentrates on Figures of Speech used by the Bible.
