So it appears that I'm the only one around here who actually saw the movie. I did not think it was sacreligious. In fact, there were a lot of good themes in the movie -- like the importance of family. Also, there was no sex, no bad language, no violence, etc., etc.

Apparently you have no beef with the rewriting of the Bible.

And how does this movie "re-write the Bible"? Just wondering...

I have yet to see the movie, but only because I don't have the time. I do plan on watching it when comes out on DVD. From the reviews I have read, and the opinions of those that have seen the movie, I would not feel ashamed at all to watch this movie with my kids.

Apparently God does NOT flood the whole earth...and the message has something do about the soverignity of God's plans for us over our own...so it still doesn't make much sense to me...

There is no flood. A dam breaks and destroys the homes in the surrounding area. Thankfully, Evan listened to God and built the ark.

There are a lot of messages in the movie -- God's sovereignty, the importance of family (especially over work), and the fact that God doesn't answer our prayers the way we would like.

All without no violence, no cursing, no sex, and no car chases.

If you are going to quote sources, why don’t you quote sources that actually agree with your position?

Both of the sources you quoted speak highly of the film. One of them gives the movie an 8 of 10 rating. But you list only the negative comments??? Wow – that’s fair and balanced, eh?

Here are other quotes from the same sources that are more representative of their reviews:

    From Moral Metric ---
“this is a family film with no profanity, sexual content, or violence.
Many scenes portray the themes of belief in God, faith, and prayer.
There are several thoughtful scenes in which God communicates with people in a personal way and encourages them to find faith.
The film focuses on several key themes: protecting the environment, having faith in God, and the fact that people can change the world one person at a time through random acts of kindness. "Evan Almighty" does a great job of combining comedy with a positive, uplifting story.”

    From Plugged In Online
“In addition to the film's reverence for God and its positive biblical references (see "Spiritual Content"), audiences are challenged to reorder their priorities, strengthen family ties and take greater social responsibility. God tells Evan to change the world by committing acts of random kindness (A.R.K.). [That theme has inspired ArkALMIGHTY, a real-world Christian good-deeds campaign in which people with specific needs can connect with others capable of meeting those needs.]
Even viewers a little uncomfortable with the idea of an anthropomorphized God popping in and out of scenes like Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeannie will find that this film minds its manners, spiritually speaking. Morgan Freeman's God is loving, powerful and totally in charge. Humorous biblical references manage to avoid irreverence, while serious moments feel more poignant than preachy.
This fictional tale shows how the Lord will often guide us through trials rather than supernaturally keep them from happening. It rightly illustrates that God answers prayers in unexpected ways, and that there's usually a reason for frustration and suffering—or at least a chance to grow in the midst of it. Evan doesn't have access to a heavenly blueprint with all the details, but God assures him that whatever He commands is motivated by love. It's simply up to Evan to follow directions and have faith, trusting God for the outcome.”

    Yep. Sounds trashy.

If you don’t like the movie, fine. Don’t go see it. But don’t take sources out of context to prove your point.

Don't take sources out of context???

    You've got to be kidding!

Whether they give it a thumbs up or not is not relevant. The same source that said it was a good movie also pointed out the filthy part of the movie.

The source gave the warning that that was in the movie. That part alone should turn the Church and those who would follow God away from the movie.

If the Rapture had happened on the first, that Church would have missed it.

Closing the doors to Church to see a filthy worldly movie?

Evan might be doing something right. Apparently according to an article from Yahoo Evan Almighty is offensive to the Malaysian Muslims religion. They want to ban Evan along with The Passion Of Christ and Brokeback Mountain

How wise are they when they ban The Passion Of Christ so that people in Malaysia won't have the opportunity to learn about Jesus sacrifice on the Cross?

I wouldn't let Mel Gibson give my children a tract. And what do you propose they should learn from Brokeback Mountain?

They will have saved their people from Marianism and other Popish doctrines. When they start banning Bibles as they did in April 2003 (but rescinded shortly thereafter) then that would be a cause for an outcry. However, banning a Catholic movie shouldn't be a major concern for Christians.

If this was about Sharia law, the actresses in the Passion of the Christ and the actors in Brokeback Mountain would be eligible for prison or execution for their involvement in pornography. We're talking about the banning of morally perverse Hollywood films here, not Sharia.
