I to am a fan of musicals and movies with music that has been conducted by people like Rogers and Hamerstein. There are 3 movies that are outstanding they are:
1) Jesus of Nazareth
2) The Ten Commandments
3) North and South

There are 2 musicals that I consider to be my favorite of all times and those are:
1) The King and I
2) The Sound of Music

When I am by myself without my husband or children around and I just want to relax and enjoy a good movie or musical I make me a "BIG" pot of hot apple cider curl up on the couch with a blanket and put one of them into my VCR and enjoy the movie. My favorite one around Easter is "Jesus of Nazareth" and "The Ten Commandments". In the Spring and Summer there are (2) "The King and I" and "The Sound of Music". Finally, sometime in the Fall I will watch "North and South" with Patrick Swayze and Elizabeth Taylor. If you are a big fan of religous movies "Jesus of Nazareth" and "The Ten Commandments" are the best ones out there to watch.

Sounds like some of you listen to some very worldly music. Just my opinion.

Deep Impact

Independence Day
Jazz Singer (saw that one 4 times in the theater)
Oh Brother (liked the soundtrack better than the movie)

 

Just picked up the soundtrack from "The Rookie".

Very good.

I've got a soft spot for John Williams. I got to see him at the Hollywood Bowl last summer and he brought the house down! Maybe that's why it's an open air theater

I can very quickly name my top 3, would have to think about how to narrow down the finalists for 4th and 5th positions.

1. Somewhere In Time (absolutely INCREDIBLE music)

2. Indiana Jones (Raiders of The Lost Ark)

3. Top Gun

 

I don't know if this counts or not, but there are about three sequels to "Oh, Brother" and two to "Songcatcher".

I'd have to add those to my list, too.

My first thought was anything by John Williams: Jaws, Star Wars, Superman, 1941, Indiana Jones...etc

Then when I thought about it some more I realised that just about every 2nd or 3rd movie steals Handel's Hallelujah Chorus (no matter how inappropriate the action on screen at the time), so I guess that would make Handel the greatest movie composer ever....

Now I think I am going to go off somewhere and get all depressed at that thought...

Not in any particular order ...

1) Fiddler on the Roof
2) Jazz Singer
3) The Sound of Music
4) The Big Chill
5) Forrest Gump

I personally don't see any wrong in enjoying secular music. I didn't listen to it at all when I first got saved. As a matter of fact, I gave away several hundred 'albums' (my collection since I was 13). Then I grew strong in the Lord and look at it today as reminiscing about my youth and how far I've come in my Christian walk.

I did a little 'trick' when I first started listening to secular music again after being saved .... especially with the 'love songs' --- I'd listen to them as though I was singing them TO the Lord, or as if He was singing them to me. Some of them were quite expressively beautiful when listened to like that.

Maybe secular music is a weakness for some, and should be avoided. But not for all, myself included.

 

I can only think of one soundtrack at the moment, "The Preacher's Wife"

 

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING has quickly become my favorite. I also enjoyed the soundtrack to OH BROTHER! WHERE ART THOU?

By the way, I can't believe I forgot to list two of my all time favorites:

"Tommy" (I like the Who's album and the Broadway cast album, but prefer the Broadway soundtrack)

"Les Miserables" (how could you not with lyrics like - "God on high/hear my prayer/in my need/ you have always been there")

"Rock and Roll High School"

I've always liked "The Wall", but is it still a soundtrack if the album came before the movie?
