    Good morning -

So much happens in Exodus today and it raises so many questions. How was Moses able to talk God out of destroying the Isrealites? Why did Aaron allow the revelry in the first place? Why did Moses break the tablets?
I am providing links to the Matthew Henry complete commentary on these two chapters so that you can explore this man's view on these passages.

    Exodus 32
    Exodus 33

In Matthew, Christ continues His criticism of the Pharisees. Dietary law was such an intricate part of Jewish custom and Christ set it into perspective. The human mouth is a very important device. It is where we take in sustenance, with our teeth we can defend ourselves, we kiss to show affection, but the concentration of this passage is that we use it to speak and communicate our thoughts. This characteristic of the mouth is the most harmful to our spirit and to those around us.

Until tomorrow, good night and may God bless you

    - Clint

The readers and participants of this forum will note that beginning about now, there is a dramatic drop in participation from 2002. To complete our task will take about 100 hours (20 minutes a day for 300 days). We have already invested about 12 1/2 of those.

Let me take this opportunity to encourage any of you still reading to buckle down and see this through. Please feel free to build upon these threads to encourage each other this year and whoever may become involved (Lord willing) next year. On February 5, we had completed 10% of our task. The time involved in reading the Bible is well spent. Looking back over last years entries, I can see a definite, marked growth in my spiritual development. I can feel my own personal theology tighten up as we go through again this year.

Stay the course. It amazes me how quickly the 25th reading of each month comes. I do not have any accurate stats, but I suspect that most Christians do not make the effort to read the Bible from cover to cover, much less take time to dwell on it. It is without comparison, the single most important piece of literature ever compiled, a gift and a legacy handed down for thousands of years. It is somewhere between Genesis 1 and Revelation 22 that we get our perception of God. That widesweeping vision of the Bible as a whole is a very empowering device for the believer.

May God bless you as you continue to read from His Word.

    Thanks for the encouragement Clint!

I enjoyed the links to the Matthew Henry commentary. It is interesting how he compares the impatience of the Israelites waiting on Moses to come down again with our impatience waiting for the Lord to return again. I don't think I would have thought of that on my own.
I also think it is somewhat amusing that Aaron tries to convince Moses that they just put the gold into the fire and it became a calf without any effort on their part.

The OT constantly foreshadowing the NT is always interesting to see. 50 days after the exodus/passover the law is given and 3,000 are slain by the Levites Ex 32:28. 50 days after Jesus's death we see the day of pentecost where the Apostle are preaching and 3,000 are "slain' by the Holy Spirit Acts 2:41.
