Not a social slur at all.

Look up the definition; it fits what I have seen posted here.

I Timothy 2:12 BBRV [Baptist Board Revised Version]

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man (pick a caveat: any male/adult male/teen+ male/post kindergarten male), during an actual church service or Sunday School class (special speakers do/don't count). However, because church is really just the few hours each week and not a 24/7 thing, she can teach a man Scripture, with her husband any other time, as long as they call it "counseling". And she can teach men secular things because the Adam/Eve 'creation mandate' wasn't really a universal mandate—of course it doesn't apply to politics, education, etc! (or alternatelty, it does). Of course, she may teach in a church service, as long as she sings her teaching. That of course 'counts' as being in silence.

Thank you Jerome, for pointing out just a few of the times when the typical SBC or IFB excuses what is really not excusable.

How very far the church is from the truth of the Scriptures in this matter.

It chafes those who don't like the truth; causing them to seek another excuse not to appropriately apply the Scriptures.

Not long until "sound doctrine" is given over to emotionalism and no truth will be found, just as Christ ask, "Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?" The question has a rhetorical answer of - No.

Van I think we can find an excsue for violating just about everything in the bible. There does not have to be a Sunday school, but we do need to obey the Lord. If the pastor will not lead when there is no man to do it or the men cannot go into another class then just don't have that part of the teaching, but don't disobey the Lord.

Seems there are some who would like to believe that Eve was not formed from Adam's rib but from his hip bone.

And she must wear a head covering or else long hair while doing it. Oh, I forgot; that part of Paul's mandate doesn't count these days, just the preaching part.

At the church where I go it's called "Bible Study" and not "Sunday School". Unfortunately, the church is few in number. The pastor was just recently ordained and has no Bible school education; he got his learning from other men and from their books.

The morning Bible Study teacher is his brother, who doesn't start the class before 10:15 if then, spends several minutes in prayer before the class, which would be fine if we had that time. The actual Bible study time is about 25-30 minutes. He jumps around with SO many scriptures to explain one verse that there's very little accomplished.

Unfortunately, it's the only Baptist church within an hour's drive of here. Also, the pastor is Calvinist, which I'm not. I have noticed that his preaching is rather shallow for what I'm used to and need, and I'm considering not going any more. However, there's nowhere else to go.

I can empathize with your feeling isolated. Hang in and don't give up.

Might that explain why those who wanted to live without clothes, without work, without washing or grooming, eating raw fruit from plants they didn't have to cultivate, were called hippies?
