The above has some relevance to other threads. The Southern Baptist Convention --the nation's largest Protestant denomination.

That is essentially what I have heard from hundreds of black men and women.
But those same voices are the ones who are telling me of the voices in the church that sound like a lot of voices on this board.

You know the ones who say "why don't black people just comply with the police"? Or the ones that keep referring to black men as violent thugs. Or the ones who believe that ,unlike the process afforded George Zimmerman, or Officer Wilson or Officer Pantaleo, the black individuals didn't deserve a trial but rather deserved to be shot and killed because of what they did or did not do.

As I said in another thread, nothing will ever change as far as race relations go in this country until the majority gets past its blind spot that doesn't allow it to accept that the reality of black people in this country is not the one that the majority seems to think it is.

You're not going to find the thugs that create the horrendous black crime statistics in church. Especially one with a mixed congregation.

Why not? That's where you find the ones who create the horrendous white crime statistics.[IMG]

I think blind spots happen on both sides though. You claim we all have white privilege and cannot understand what it is like to be harassed by the police for how we look. I responded and proved you wrong and you just quit responding. I posted a great article that calls out the church on it's lack of action and the first real response is basically, "it's y'alls fault."

You know I agree that many "Christians" actions are deplorable and call into question their "Christianity." The trouble is someone decided that how white people feel doesn't matter. It does. Perhaps we don't get harassed by the police, even when committing a crime, the way a black male does. I still can't go to a black neighborhood without my life being threatened. I am still automatically labelled a racist with no qualifier other than I am white, and heaven forbid I mention I am from the south.

I raised strongly to believe a persons skin color doesn't matter. I was almost killed in 6th grade, by an adult, for having a black girlfriend. But I have also spent my life being called a racist and having my life and property threatened just because I am white. A person is only going to put themselves out there and get bit so many times before they quit putting themselves out there.

I have supported most of what you have posted here concerning race, yet you still broad brushed me in with everyone else with your "white people" statements. It gets to the point I will just let you get beat down because I get sick of being insulted no matter what I do... based solely on the color of my skin.

I didn't say that both sides didn't have blind spots.

Now if you go back and read what I REALLY said, I said

Thus there was no need for me to respond as I didn't say ALL.

And black people get the same thing when they walk into white neighborhoods, into department stores, into gas stations, etc. And from what I see and hear from black people,it's no so much that what white people think doesn't matter. It's more of what white people think doesn't have to matter more than what black people think as has generally been the case.

They are attempting to take back their lives after slavery and decades of still being told how they could think, where they could go, how they could do things , etc.

You were raised incorrectly because in the United States of America, it certainly does matter and don't ever forget that. So many of us like to say that we don't see skin color. We need to see skin color because it's there. And forthright or undercover, it influences our thought processes when we don't know someone.

And many black people would take you underneath their wing and say "come join the party" because they have experienced something very similar time and time again. But their parents and grandparents would be speaking in the past tense about the person involved because they were burned alive or lynched or dragged behind a truck or shot dead for doing what you did.

Again, no I did not. I f you look back at what I DID say, I specifically said "so many" and not ALL.

Now you know by now that there isn't a soul in this world who can beat me down with anything that the Holy Spirit in me can't stand firmly against.

I can say what I say because I'm speaking to a wickedness that many refuse to even acknowledge.

You've experienced a different perspective than the average white person. So have I. But until those in the Body of Christ realize that a lot of white people do operate from a position of white privilege that will not let them even consider that the perspective of the non-majority might have merit, then things will continue to spiral down.

Black, Hispanic (some illegal), and white folk all live in my neighborhood. We get along and no one bothers anyone. Let me try and visit parts of West Atlanta, or even move in. Maybe I will go and visit the bluffs?

I agree. You tell people they are less than human long enough they will start to believe it. But folks refuse to answer the question of when personal responsibility kicks in? I ask similar questions of poor white people. Why can't poor folks clean the trash up from their yard? Why can't they avoid using meth? When will a "leader" stand up and say "if you act and look like a gang banger don't expect anyone to treat you like anything more?" Here is a link to a video I want you to watch. Language warning. It's bad. But this is the attitude many whites encounter when dealing with black people. http://youtu.be/WNFTfR6WycA

Oh, I see skin color now. It keeps me sane. I spend most of my time with Hispanics because white and black people drive me up a wall.

You should reread some of your posts.

It is not always a refusal to acknowledge it. It is sometimes just being sick to death of getting trashed regardless of the position taken.

And that in and of itself is just more evidence that he is only here to get a rise out of people.

Of course, this article is November 24 and therefore somewhat old. However, it is full of platitudes and high-sounding empty phrases that it makes me wonder if the SBC would be well advised to disband the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and spend the money in defense of the faith?

We all do it. I see what you usually post in the General Baptist section and then see what you post here and I think someone has taken control of your account or you have multiple personalities. I know that you don't, but you troll with the best of the best. It's human pride and there is not one innocent here.

No we don't all do it. If that is what you think trolling is you do not have a clue.

    According to the Baptist Board:

Merely, stating a contrary opinion is not trolling.

To a racist, that's all that matters.
