Glenn Beck’s Lincoln Contradictions

by Thomas J. DiLorenzo

I’ve been occasionally watching Glenn Beck on the Fox News Channel and think he has done an admirable job of smoking out and identifying the shockingly hardcore, radical socialists who dominate the Obama administration. He has also done a generally good job talking about the libertarian founding principles of America, how they have been lost, and our duty to regain them. But he has been absolutely abysmal when discussing the subject of Lincoln, the War to Prevent Southern Independence, and its legacy. I suspect that the reason for this disconnect with historical reality is that: 1) The Fox News Channel is essentially a propaganda arm of the neoconservative political cabal that has captured the Republican Party; 2) One of the cornerstones of neocon ideology is Lincoln idolatry and hatred of the South and Southerners. (Professor Paul Gottfried, for one, has written extensively about this.) 3) Therefore, if Glenn wants to keep his gig at Fox, he must toe the party line on Lincoln. Being otherwise libertarian – while the Democrats are in power – serves the purposes of the neocon cabal nicely.

What does that have to do with the gospel of Christ and why is it in a sermon?

maybe i misunderstood. i thought this thread was about beck's opinion of lincoln??

is every sermon from every pastor supposed to be about the gospel?

are pastors not ever supposed to give a sermon on what really happened during the civil war and shed light on the lies that have been handed down from our 'lincolnized' gov't school systems?

so heres what it has to do with the Gospel of Christ. Jesus said the world was evil. your gov't schools lied to you and me while we were in school by telling us about a civil war that was totally different than what really happened. why? so they could build up their own agenda and their own evil gov't and fool millions of people into thinking that our gov't is really good, when it is not.
this sermon series sheds the light on their lies and thus fulfills prophecy that the world is evil, especially your gov't.

let God be true and every man a liar...

Sometimes it is difficult to know what the truth is concerning history. It is said the victor gets to write history, and there is a lot of truth to that.

I imagine the truth is somewhere in the middle.

The Civil War was very different than what we have been taught. There was actually much resistance against the war in the North, there was an anti-draft riot in NYC where over a thousand people were killed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Draft_Riots

And today we think Kent State where 4 people were killed was a big deal. This was nothing compared to the Civil War riots.

Why would neocons hate the South and Southerners? Wouldn't the South have a lot of necons, or are the conservatives down there more "paleocons"?
(I was thinking of making a thread, particularly directed towards you (Ken) asking what the difference between a paleocon and a libertarian really is, buecause the ideology sounds very similar).

Yes! It is the good news that reforms, not morality and political sermons. "God and country" results in a dualistic religion.

OK, I see now. Thanks.
Paleoconservatives are mainly distinguished by the three issues Buchanan outlined, which I had noticed here in recent years: strong opponents of immigration, skeptical of the benefits of free-trade, oppose most foreign intervention. (Though I assumed neo-cons were critical of immigration too. Perhaps they are just seen as not strong enough on it?)

I notice there is not a lot about "limiting government" in general. They're just big on states' rights, over national power. (And are more critical of the welfare state).

So Libertarians are even more averse to government on all levels, which I guess would include state.
I had assumed that the difference between neos and paleo's were that the paleos were specifically against all "big government", where the neo's were allowing it, just as long as it promoted conservative values. But I see the issue is really about just the Federal government usurping state and local authority.

When you have all these different people complaining about the government the way it is now, it seems to blur together, and it's hard to tell one criticism from the other.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2Ti 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2Ti 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

This is where we are now.

It's good to know that God will one day bring order out of this chaos, without a politcal agenda.
