God reveals Truth to His children.

John 14:16,17 - "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you".

Acts 2:38 - "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost".

    Romans 8:1,4,5,14,16 -
(1)"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.....
(4,5) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit....
    (14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God....
    (16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:"

It is the Holy Spirit dwelling within Who teaches us Truth as we read the Word of God. The accepting of Truth comes naturally to the "new creation" for this new creation now has a new heart, a new spirit, because the spirit has been quickened, alive now with the very God of the universe dwelling inside, two as one joined together in a Holy matrimony, Truth flows from the Scriptures with an unresisting flow, the very God effortlessly plowing through the flesh which once stood in resistance to God's Truth.

The Truth of Freewill is effortlessly taught of the Holy Spirit as we read the Holy Scriptures. This comes naturally to the newly created child of God. A person does not gain the knowledge of the Freewill Doctrines of Grace, any more than a person one day just becomes a Christian. It takes a work of Divine enablement.

okay....I believe we have need to learn the biblical ...a,b c's to raise this issue...

27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned....salvation is also ...GIVEN...by Divine enablement...they go hand in hand....

Just wonder what translation you are using. I checked that passage from several translations and they read different from what you posted!

    1 Corinthians 2:14

KJV--But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

ASV--Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

GLT--But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

NASB--But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

NIV--The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

NKJV--But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Sorry, that last part looks like it is part of the verse. It should have been set apart as commentary, I noticed it later but time for edit had expired.

    Steaver,

Being free will does not exist, and is not mentioned in scripture....we can be sure that it was not Divine enablement in this case! see how simple that is.....Steaver.

These objections are covered in the OP...

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given

I find it interesting that you say that Freewill is taught in Scripture and yet every verse you posted talks about God's work (And even bolded them) and the fact that the natural man cannot receive it.

Once one has received the Holy Spirit of Truth, resistance to the Word of God falls totally away. Sheep simply follow the Word as it is written. There is no need to go digging for any hidden mysteries...Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

...whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

    Very clear...

...whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

The order of events is recorded for us to plainly read all throughout Scripture.

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted [from unbelief to belief], that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; And he shall send Jesus Christ [regeneration by the will of God], which before was preached unto you.

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

There are loads of passages emphasizing the Freewill Doctrines of Grace. I will feed them slowly, a few at a time.

Feel free to post all you want. I was raised in the Wesleyan Church so I'm well versed in free will doctrine. It was as I studied the Bible that I became more and more reformed.

True Story. I'm a bit of a black sheep in my family but I'm fine with that. I can't ignore what I see in the Scripture

I could turn that around and say that a person does not gain the knowledge of the Sovereign Doctrine of Grace, any more than a person one day just becomes a Christian. It takes a work of Divine enablement. ;)

My husband wanted me to point out that this all comes from the Scriptures, and we can not come to any specific knowledge about God apart from His Word.

That's exactly what my OP is on. But it takes more than just reading God's Word, anyone can do that. One must have the Spirit of Truth enabling one to believe the Freewill Doctrines of Grace. Which btw, recognizes the Sovereignty of God in which the Sovereign God of this Universe has the Sovereign right to give His Creation Freewill.

Why would the Spirit of Truth lead one to something that is false?

Another good question would be why would the Spirit of Truth lead one to something that would cause great divide among Jesus' sheep?

Another good question would be why would the Holy Spirit teach a man (John Calvin) ideas that would lead him to persecute and exterminate those who would disagree with those ideas?

Of course not....because it is a term you invented evidently.

Could you show a verse of scripture that teaches it?,,,,no......I did not think so:thumbsup:

Yes that is a good question for you to ponder Steaver. You seem keen on the idea of a free will.....so did lucifer

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

He wanted to act independant of God's will.
