Another straw mam argument. None of these are used to 'symbolize' Christ.

BTW, I'm not a supporter of LifeWay either. They sell way too many books by authors who are heretics.

But this info sounds close to accurate.

Nor is a Christmas tree, so how does that make it a straw man?

Actually Clement of Alexandria mentioned it about 200 A.D. but you're right, Christmas is a relative late comer among Christian customs.
However, that doesn't invalidate it. There is nothing wrong with honoring our Lord by celebrating the day of His birth.

Uh no one celebrates Santa Clause or Rudolph. Self control would suit you well.

No our ending is the taking of the Christ candle and having everyone come in front and light their candle by it as we circle the sanctuary and then sing Silent Night. I then encourage everyone to take the light of Christ to the world.

We have FOUR Christmas tress, an Advent wreath, lectern for scripture reading, a choir, stained glass, air conditioning, heating, drop down screen, wireless mics, padded pews and carpet.

So all those who think these are of Satan, heretics and compromisers better stay clear, don't want to get Christmas kooties, might make you smile or something.

But the first time the western church celebrated Christmas was Dec. 25th 336.

I like you one person calls out the lack of "apostolic" or "scriptural" support for these things, but the moment someone mentions other things in the church that are not mentioned in the Bible it becomes a "strawman" argument. You can't have it both ways. Either you admit that modern inventions are allowable, or you enforce a church that is strictly "scriptural" and "apostolic," meaning:

    • no electricity
    • no heat/AC other than a possible fireplace
    • no Sunday School
    • no invitation (as we all know an invitation/altar call is a horrifying affront to the sovereign God)
    • no Bible School
    • no organized times of worship (I don't recall reading about those, unless you argue the early church merely adopted the Jewish times of prayer)
    • no musical accompaniment
I could go on, but I hope that proves a point.

So your church doesn't have any kind of plant or flower in it? Not even to aid in freshening the air in the building?

Do you wear a suit to church? If so, what scripture gives "apostolic" authorization for wearing a suit?

Do you drive a car to church? If so, which apostle said that driving a car was an allowable way to reach a place of worship?

I wonder if they use a Bible in their services. You know, one with printed pages. The outrage! They didn't have that in apostolic times.
