Have you tried Krispy Kreme donuts?

I grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, where Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937!

My hubby and I can't stand 'em!!! The ones fresh out of the oven at the shop are the worst: they taste like hot dough. But then again, when we lived in the south, we had friends who would cross the state line to go eat the freshly baked ones......We've polled a lot of people ourselves. We are definitely in the minority!!!

 

I cannot eat more than one - they are so rich and sugary that I get a sugar rush and am no good for anything for an hour or so after eating it.

 

I can easily eat a box of 12 Glazed Krispy Kreme's by myself. No problem.

 

I love them fresh but don't like it when the sugar begins to melt. I'd NEVER eat 12 by myself tho!

My mother worked at Krispy Kreme when I was a baby, in the 1950's.

 

They are wayyyyyyy tooo good.

 

Are there any other kind of doughnuts? lol

KK was in this area a long time ago, and then left. Now they are back, and when they open new locations, they give away the regular glazed ones to whoever comes in for the first few days.

That practice, and the fact one can get hooked on 'em, has earned these things the nickname of "the pastry equivilent of crack cocaine."

If I have to mess up my blood sugar, I would hope it would be with something with more substance and taste. A friend with a slightly wierd sense of humor once noted that if I ever wanted to kill myself, KK would happily oblige, as a quantity of these would surely send me into diabetic coma.

(ps - I have eaten them, but one's my limit.)

 

You can special order Krispy Kreme wedding cakes too!!

 

There isn't any Shipley's Donuts or Jack and Jill donut shops there? I prefer Shipleys or the donuts in our local Brookshires Bakery.

 

I've been eating these things my whole life too. I've always like Dunkin Doughnuts better though because of the variety.

 

I can't stand them either...WAY too sweet

 

Krispy Kreme doughnuts...good good good, but if I eat too many, the sweetness gets to me.

 

They are the best! They just opened a new restuarant down the street and you can't even get close, it is so busy.

Last year, the Florida Marlins had the best promotion ever -- every time the Marlins had 12 hits in a home game, every ticket holder received a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. So, if your whole family went to the game, you could end up with several or more dozen donuts FREE! Every time the Marlins got up to 9 or 10 runs, the stands went wild just waiting for that 12th hit.

 

We love KK!!!!!! I havent had one in about a year and a half, though (dieting) but my dh and kids get one occasionally!

 

I loved them till I had to change out the ductwork in one in Huntsville - never mind, you probably don't want to know .

 

Donut: Definition: Disgusting American invention to clag up the arteries of the world.

Never tried Krispy Kremes however.....lol
