"Dr. Carl Peterson, M.D. conducted a study at ORU in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Being a brain specialist, he was doing research on the relationship between the brain and praying or speaking in tongues. He found that as we pray in the Spirit or worship in the Spirit (our heavenly language), the brain releases 2 chemical secretions that are directed into our immune systems giving a 35 to 40 percent boost to the immune system. This promotes healing within our bodies. Amazingly, this secretion is triggered from a part of the brain that has no other apparent activity in humans and is only activated by our Spirit-led prayer and worship!"

Glossolalia influences on stress response among Apostolic Pentecostals: The data in this study suggest that glossolalia (speaking in tongues) is associated with a reduction in stress in response to normal stressors and significantly associated with positive mood and calmness. Obviously the reduction of stress is extremely helpful to one’s immune system and entire health. Stress damages the body. Peace heals it.

A recent study of nearly 1,000 evangelical Christians in England found that those who engaged in the practice were more emotionally stable than those who did not.

Did the brain specialist tell you that he would get the same results from Hindus that speak in tongues, Wiccans that speak in tongues, and Mormons that speak in tongues.
When one allows the conscious mind to be over-ruled by the sub-conscious mind then there is a release of tension and he feels better. He also may open up his mind (subconsciously) to suggestion, and thus the speaking of tongues. However he may also open it up to demonic oppression as well.

Biblical tongues has ceased. It was the enablement of the person to speak in an actual "known" language but unknown to the speaker at that time.
Today, it is just unholy "gibberish."-

Private prayer in tongues is not for human ears, and it is not a known language. It isn't supposed to be. It is only known by the Holy Spirit, because we do not know what to pray for.

I don't find that teaching in the Bible.
Prayer is communication--communication with God in particular.
If you don't know what you are communicating with God, then neither does God. God can only know what can be known, not the unknowable. A "prayer language," is a language put in prayer. That is the language (usually our native tongue) that we pray to God in. Catholics used to recite their prayers in Latin. But they are real languages.

I get the same feeling of being emotionally "de-toxed" by listening to certain secular music and singing along on youtube.com.

This same brain specialist, Dr. Carl Peterson, wrote about these things in the early 1980's.

In 2006 he went to jail for drugging his wife with pyschotropic drugs and keeping her bed ridden. He went to jail, and also had to wear an ankle monitor.

    I don't think he's too credible.

"this secretion is triggered from a part of the brain that has no other apparent activity in humans" has been verified by other studies to increase the immune system. Scientific fact remains

Hmmm...so God the Holy Spirit tells God the Father what a human should be praying about using the human's vocal chords. Doesn't God the Father already know this?

In 1Cor 14 Paul says "tongues is a sign to unbelievers" - while prophecy is a sign for believers.

What unbeliever benefits from someone praying alone - by themselves in tongues - intending that no human ear should hear it??

    in Christ,

    Bob

the point is that whether or not you believe the bible gift of tongues is still valid - the description given of the modern form of it - does not match the bible gift of tongues.

    1. Scientific and historical fact is:
    2. Biblical fact is: There is no such thing as a private prayer language that can be demonstrated from an honest exegesis of Scripture.

"For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also;....."

The mind prays with thought and words understandable to the person praying, and others who understand English for instance. Praying in thought without audible words is valid praying but shouldn't be mistaken for praying in the spirit.

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”

Even if a Christian rejects praying in tongues, while they are in their prayer closet, or quiet place to pray, they should be groaning and making odd noises continually if the Holy Spirit is interceding for them. Otherwise, the person can pray legible words and even biblical prayers that may be fruitful, but he is not praying in the Spirit, which is better, according to scripture.

This was a rebuke to those either speaking in tongues or praying in tongues. They didn't know what they were doing or saying. Paul was rebuking them.
"What am I to do," he says.
The answer: Pray with your spirit. That is the spirit of man communicates with God. This is not tongues, has nothing to do with tongues. Pray also with your mind. You must pray with your mind. Put together prayer is from the heart and mind. It is not just intellectual (rote, or words put together, intellectualism--that is the mind), but it is from the heart--the spirit, as well.
The mind does pray with thoughts and words that are acceptable before God.
Hannah prayed without a voice. Her lips moved but her words were not heard. It was still her mind that was active. The record also indicates that she poured out her heart before the Lord.

Here is the Scripture you referred to:
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Note: You say Christians should make groanings.
The Bible says that it is the Holy Spirit that makes groaning for us which cannot be uttered. It is impossible for the human voice to utter the groanings which the Holy Spirit utters on behalf of the believer. Why would you try to imitate the work of the Holy Spirit?
Wouldn't that be considered blasphemous under normal circumstances--imitating the supernatural work of God? That may be unintentional on your part, but just asking you to consider the theological implications of the verse.

It really comes down to a walk. Some have not walked it out and experienced the presence of God, or saw the Spirit manifest, only a statement or collections of verses about Jesus, but never knowing Him in a personal way. You who reject have never walked much, from faith to faith, grace to grace. I'm not against you but am for you to get a deeper relationship with Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Only those who have been baptized in the Holy Ghost may enter the Holy of Holies, but your in the temple.

    PnS,

Do you have a link to the study (or have I missed it)? I am wondering how it was carried out as it cannot be as I picture in my mind. Obviously just stating the result of the study does not make it a "scientific fact," but I'll hold of opinion for the link. It is interesting - although others make a good observation...tongues is not limited to Christianity by any means, and there are many activities that trigger various parts of the human brain (for example, looking at "cute" pictures of animals...and there's a study on that also).
