In the recent thread, it was stated that WORKS sends a person to the lake of fire.

    I disagree.

    John 3

18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

    Revelation 20

15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

I'd like to hear the reasoning why I should look at the work of humankind as a determiner rather than the work of Christ?

Works are the evidence of who they're working for. Those on the left did the works of satan. Those on the right did the works of Christ(Matthew 25).

But why did they do those works? Because of what they believed, or didn't believe. The works are the result, not the cause, in either case.

Those who are not saved through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ will be cast into the lake of fire.

you went straight to the last verse so you can justify your belief.
here's the whole thing, in context.....

    Revelation 20: 12-15

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened : and another book was opened , which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

I think you are referring to the "infants" thread started by somebody, and I am the one who said infants do not go to hell and are not judged according to their fallen nature.

Infants have NO WORKS, good or bad. They have a fallen nature, and unless they act and do works in accordance to that fallen nature they are not breaking any of God's laws, whether moral or otherwise.

With respect to your other scripture, John 3:8, he who does not believe is judged because his ACTIONS of unbelief are results of his fallen nature, and whether it is a judgment UNTO damnation or a judgment unto discipline is something else.

    ACTIONS of unbelief???

That isn't even close to what Christ stated in John 3.

The example is given early when Nicodemus was told, "what is born of flesh is flesh, what is born of spirit is spirit. Marvel not, you must be born again."

The emphasis is NOT upon ACTIONS of unbelief, but upon belief. What is born of Spirit puts the emphasis upon God's authority, not humankind actions.

Further, the emphasis at the great white throne isn't on the "books" it is on the "book."

The books are just a review of the person's life. Though the Scriptures don't clearly state, I prefer the judgement books as showing documentation of the appeals made to be reconciled to God.

The books are certainly recorded deeds and the motivations, and are produced that all know the true life lived. That excuse making and political maneuverings are worthless at that judgement.

Were is the true emphasis? NOT on the "books!"

What actually is emphasized is shown in what actually condemns the folk.

NOT the books, but the book - rather, that is what is not written in the book. The name.

I didn't participate in the "infant" thread, and really it doesn't make any difference, it is God's decision and He doesn't allow us privileged information about that topic.

If all the children that were slain when the Hebrews entered the land are in Heaven, that is His right. If they are not, that is His right.

If a child dies, it is God's authority in the matter of eternity.

We are not to make judgement of salvation upon anyone - that is not given to the believer by God.

It is total speculation by those who would proclaim that a child is or isn't in heaven, a speculation that isn't given for humankind to know.

God is just. Whatever He has decided is just.

I understand what pinoy is saying and he's dead on spot with what Christ is saying in Jn 3 when the entire context is considered and compared with other scripture. The emphasis is on those who are FIRST born from above so that they are then able to see, and then, to enter, the kingdom of God (everything Christ is all about), and then gives contrast between these circumcised in heart and those who are not the children of the Jerusalem that is above:

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God. Jn 3

It’s very clear, those in whom God has wrought in writing the law upon their hearts are already DOING the truth prior to coming to Christ:

13 for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified:
    14 (for when Gentiles that have not the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are the law unto themselves;
15 in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness therewith, and their thoughts one with another accusing or else excusing them); Ro 2

It is about deeds and doing. ‘By their fruits you shall know them’.

18 But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart; and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, railings:
20 these are the things which defile the man.... Mt 15

You don't have to do anything to go to the "lake of fire." You were born with a one way ticket already in hand. And, except by grace through faith it's a done deal.

And besides, belief is a work, faith is a fruit:

28 They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?
29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. Jn 6

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Gal 5
