Been keepin' up with the events in the Scott Peterson case, and I guess I'm a little confused about something.

Prosecutors are going for the death penalty due to it being a double homicide. Double???

Oh wait, maybe I get it. When the baby is unwanted and the mother kills it, it's "just an abortion" and it's okay, but when the baby is wanted and it is "killed," then it's murder. Not a very consistent standard. [IMG] :( [IMG]

    Hey there, Ken.

I'm about forty miles west of you in lil' ole Oswego, Il.

    Yep, it's all about convenience.

If a baby isn't convenient - it's a fetus (latin for little child) - and is disposable.

But if it is convenient - as in this case - to impose a death sentence - then it is murder.

Because there is no way to determine if "Conner" (imagine that, they even named the child) was convenient, because that is the sole prerogative of the mother (the father is powerless to affect her decision) - this case is quite the slippery slope.

If a conviction is gained, and upheld - then the pro-life may have sufficient grounds to resubmit the case to the Supreme Court and the overthrow of Roe v. Wade.

So far this is the way it works.

Men and women aren't equal so let's lower women to the level of men.
Boys and girls aren't equal so let's lower girls to the level of boys.
Baby vs fetus isn't equal so let's lower the status of a baby to a fetus in cases like this. This is how consistency will be reached and NOT the other way around. So don't look forward to a good outcome if you convince people that this is inconsistent.

    Nice, Artimaeus
Now you really confused him, if not, now I am confused. :D

Yeah, this world is pretty screwed up, but then again, what else can you expect when Satan is the prince of it.

I think Abortion should be counted as murder too, but that is a different topic.

    God bless!

That's what we're hoping for! [IMG] He should be charged with two murders. The mother was eight months pregnant. The baby was perfectly capable of surviving outside the womb.

Why wouldn't the baby be named? Four of my grandchildren were miscarried. They were all named and all received a Christian burial. They were babies, not fetuses.

    Blessings,
    Sue

2Tim, I didn't mean to be confusing. I was agreeing with Kenneth but was just saying that if this inconsistency is recognized by the court that their adjustment will be to lower the level of the child in this case to a nonhuman fetus so that they will be consistent and not the outher way around.

Sometimes I get my tongue wrapped around my eye teeth and I can't see what I am saying. :D

Nothing at all. In fact, as Christians we could name the name of our child at conception.

But strange that it would be done by those that are not Christians (sorry, I have not heard any indication that Laci was a believer) - and in this case solely for the purpose (imo) to try the case in the media.

I think you are missing something here. The mother was murdered. And because of that murder the baby was murdered.

Lets be a little more mature in this. Abortion is wrong. But this women in question had no choice, not only was she violated by murder but her baby was also and not by choice.

It is sad when you say things like this. It shows just a little more to your character. Where is the compassion for the murdered women and her most definate murdered baby.

Compare abortion to something else, and leave this undefensive violated murdered women and her baby out of it.

    Shame on you!

    And you would suggest what...?

I was not trying to be "uncompassionate;" I was just trying to point out the inconsistent standard that is applied when a pregnancy is "terminated;" whether by choice or not. How can a fetus/baby be killed and it's okay in one situation, and yet killed and not be okay in another?

Let's look at this another way. Let's say that my girlfriend became pregnant (something, btw, that isn't going to happen, at least while I'm dating her, but that's a topic for another post) and for some unknown/ungodly reason I decided I didn't want the baby, but she did. Now, would it be within the realm of legality for me to punch her in the stomach hard enough to cause the pregnancy to be terminated? After all, if she has a choice to end the pregnancy, so should I, right? Wrong. Not only would I be charged with the murder of the baby, I would also be charged with assault. But yet she could walk into any abortion mill in the country, kill the baby, and walk out and not have to worry about facing a murder charge.

Now I ask you, how fair is that?

So Sherrie, shame on me??? No, I don't think so. I was just trying to raise a question to be debated. A question concerning the standard of how killing a baby is okay in one instance but not in another. That is, after, the nature of this portion of the BB. I'm sorry if the original post offended you in some way, that was not my intent.

    Have a blessed day.

I think the double murder charge is from the age of the unborn baby. Sadly it has to be a certain age before it is a real baby apparently. Murdering an unborn baby is murder no matter what it's age or the the person doing the killing, whose decision it was, and what the intent was.

At present, only the charges have been laid. Murder must be proved in a court of law. Is this another trial by public opinion?

Secondly, I am always confused by those who are so adamantly opposed to abortion and yet uphold the death penalty; murder by state.

The death penalty was not God ordained, but was always a choice of the state. At one point in scripture, a wayward son was to be stoned to death if he failed to obey.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Dear Jim,
Could you please clarify this? i thought that God commanded the death penalty in some cases, including the wayward son.

    Jim...

Sorry, but I must differ with you...with regards to Capital punishment...there is not basis for comparrison...between capital punishment...and killing an innocent baby...who has done no wrong...

There were three great institutions given by God...to man...

    1. Marriage...Genesis...2:18-25

    2. the Church...Matthew 16

    3. Government...Genesis 9

    If it is not so...
    Please Explain...

And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

    Genesis 9:5-7

    See also Romans 13:1-4

    and Numbers 35:31-34...

    As Luther said...

"God establishes government and gives it the sword to hold wantonness in check, lest violence and others sins proceed without limit."

I do not see this discussion as a trial by opinion...it is rather a discussion about the descrepencies and injustices of the law as it now stands...and as Art said...the murder charge involving the baby...will probably not stand...as the courts...rather than raise the standard...will lower it...to conform with the already existing...laws concerning abortion...

    Y'Israel...

Also, has any heard the autopsy report on Baby Conner? Could he have been alive when he was born and then drowned. I know that some doctors have said that gas that builds up in a corpse will expel a baby, but trauma can cause premature labor too. If he drowned, certainly that would erase all doubt from the minds of even those (UGG) who are pro-aborts!

I'd really like to know his cause of death. I'm sure it's going to be brought out at trial.

    Diane
