    Did anybody else see this?

I wonder how many voters from either party are going to the polls with silly preconceived notions such as this goofy lady.

I know she was talking about terrorists and terrorist supporting states, but the shouts from the crowd were an unavoidable truth, as well.

Even if she was talking about Obama, it was still the truth.

    No apology necessary.

That is the trouble with town hall meetings. You will get the uninformed, informed and the misinformed.

That the press implies that this is the thought of all Conservatives is what unnerves me.

Yeah, depending on the outlet it is probably spinned to be shown that all convervatives are like this....but for the record, I'm not saying that I think they are.

I guess I'm just wondering how many voters, from either side, have ridiculous notions.

The main problem, besides her ignorance about Barack Obama, with the lady in the story is that she talks like there is something wrong with being an Arab. There isn't. A person doesn't get to choose his/her race or ethnicity.

No - but you do get to choose who you associate with and Obama has associated with a lot of shady hate America types.

But that isn't a reflection on him - right?

Actually, Ken, that's not entirely true.

Whenever I get any government paperwork to fill out, I list my nationality as "Eskimo/Inuit" just to screw up the books.

If race ain't supposed to matter, why do they ask? So, I mess 'em up.

    Ya'll join me.

Side benefit: you get to "choose your race."

Now why would I choose to be an Inuit? Because they're such cool folk.

    :D :D

The topic of the thread is this lady's statement about race/ethnicity.

I usually leave the question blank, but to answer your question.

    Demographics...

Supposedly they don't tie the race to a name just t a count.

    Internet:

"Cushitic-speaking people, from northern Africa moved into the area that is now Kenya beginning around 2000 BC. Arab traders began frequenting the Kenya coast around the 1st century AD. Kenya's proximity to the Arabian Peninsula invited colonization, and Arab and Persian settlements sprouted along the coast by the 8th century. During the first millennium AD, Nilotic and Bantu-speaking peoples moved into the region, and the latter now comprise three-quarters of Kenya's population."

Yeah, LadyEagle, Kenyans sure look like Arabs.

None of this matters anyway, unless one is prejudiced against Kenyans and Arabs.

It might make a difference if he wins and declares himself to be a muslim or embraces Judaism. But my world view is a whole lot different than yours, especially now that you've confessed you are "progressive" (code word for socialist) in the other thread. And for a couple of years you had me fooled that you were a conservative. Glad you found out who you really are.

So what if he does? I am not voting for Barack Obama on the basis of his religious beliefs.

So now being a Jew is bad news also. Isn't Lieberman, McCain's best friend a Jew? Perhaps we need a McCain pals with Jews thread?

The point is, the lady in the OP is not goofy. He is more Arab than he is Negro. The fact that he is running as a "black" candidate is a lie. 6.25% African Negro from his father's side doesn't qualify him to call himself black. He's more white and Arab than black.
