No, I got your point but the implication of your posts is that it's better not to have a gun at all if you have children, rather than doing the responsible thing and teaching your child gun saftey.

This is more or less how I was brought up.

Granted, most kids of my generation grew up around guns so there was no "mystique" to it. My dad and my grandfather never kept their guns locked. They never needed to.

A couple of years ago, and I think I've told this story here before, a neighbor's son came running into the house with some friends and told him that they had found a gun in the woods.

The father called the police and they came right out.

As it turns out, it was only a replica .45 but the officers praised the kids for knowing not to touch the gun and the boys replied that they learned it when Eddie the Eagle came to their school.

I didn't mean to imply you should not have a gun if you have children. I ment that for ME I will not have a gun.

My reasons for not owning a gun.

    1. I do worry about safety. Accidents happen no matter how well prepared and educated we are.

    2. If I keep a gun locked up it is not an effective weapon if needed quickly.

    3. I simply don't want to own one.

One of my big fears is that my grandsons will go to somebody else's house and some other kid will pick up an unsecured firearm to show them and an accident will ensue.

The Eddie Eagle program is a great program.

    Dear Bible Believing Bill,

I hear you. My wife and I brought 11 children into the world, we lived most of that time in Maine where guns are part of living in a rural area.

All of our children were taught gun safety and some were involved with gun clubs and enjoyed the recreational aspects of firearm competition.

    We never had a problem.

A final word: There is far more danger for you and your family for injury or worse by owning an automobile than a gun. Of course one is a virtual necessity of life and the other a constitutional right.

Hardsheller that happened ! My son was in High School at the time .He was at a party and this kid took out a handgun and started waving it around .Saying its my dads its not loaded .My sons grew up with guns .I have owned over 50 handguns and load my own rounds . My son said can I look at it .He checked the chamber and there was a round in it .He emptied it and said you better put this handgun away then he left .I always taught the boys. CHECK for rounds no matter what anyone says .I took my grandson to the range Saturday . I shot a 44 magnum he shot a BB gun .I have had handguns for over 30 years .I only shot targets I am not a hunter . I have had a protection permit for years here in Pa. but never carried one out in public just in the woods . I also keep the cartridges locked up in the basement and the guns locked upstairs .I Never keep a gun loaded in the house. NEVER !

Like my dad always said, "Rule number 1: Treat every weapon as a loaded weapon. Rule number 2: If you think a weapon is unloaded, see rule number 1".

I see your point and respect it a 100% I don't see why the others don't respect you oppenion if you believed all guns should be outlawed then that would be a diffrent thing.

I can still be friends with Bible Believing Bill---he don't have no guns---I've got a few!! That won't stop me from liking BBB!! And me havin' um won't stop BBB from likein' me!!

My weapons are locked up---if intruder breaks into my house---weeeeeeeel, he's gonna have to do the best he can with what he's got!!!

My weapons stay locked up! I do not carry "Heat!" I do go out time to time with my boy and girl and shoot---but not the high powered stuff---mercy, those bullets are expensive! You shoot a 8mm Mauser----one time---and you think to yourself, "Mercy! I just blew a dollar fifty!!!"

Did anyone see 20/20 last night when they were talking about gun control? It was quite hilarious to see a liberal station destroy the myth that gun control reduces crime.

They had Clinton saying that the Brady bill would help stop crime. Um, guess not Billary.

Seriously, they had criminals that were doing time for major offenses say that they didn't care what ban was on guns, they had ways of getting them. They also said that they were not afraid of the police. They were only afraid of homneowners with guns.

I nearly bought another one the other day.

As far as kids go, keep the gun in one place and the clip in a hidden place. You can grab the clip and then the gun and you are ready in seconds.

Baseball bats are very effective against people with guns.

Btw, so what if they remove all guns? Does anyone think that criminals would stop there? What about knives, screwdrivers, axes, hatchets, hammers, etc? Does the mindlessness of gun control ever end? Nevermind that Christ told his followers to sell what they had and GO BUY A SWORD.

When catapults are outlawed, only outlaws will have catapults.

I am glad to see that my buddy blackbird finally stuck in his .02. He is usually the first one to jump to attention when the word gun is mentioned.

blackbird is my gun toting, pecan pie eating, tractor driving, fish catchin, Gospel Preachin friend.

At one point in time I wanted to join the NRA, not because I walk around carrying guns but because they stand up for a person's right have them.
I registered with my first initial and last name. When the FEMALE worker called back, I'm assuming to get my info and to complete the membership she asked to speak to Mr. _____. I commented that there was no MISTER _____ there, but I was Mrs. ____. She said ok and HUNG UP ON ME!
So...I never joined. LOL You'd THINK another female calling might stop and think "ok, maybe SHE is the one joining..."

Well, you aren't required to own a gun. No one is. As no one is required to live in Kennessaw, Ga. So there, no more problem. [IMG]
