Not at all. I am simply saying the president would have many choices. Entitlements would be one. But there are many others also.

So, what is so wrong in doing what the governors ask?

Congress writes laws. The Supreme Court rules on the Constitutionality of those laws as written. A president who respects the Constitution carries out those laws.

Obama rewrites or ignores laws as he chooses, you apparently would do the same. If the people of this country have any sense, which is doubtful, that will begin to change after the 2014 elections, dingy harry, obama's gofer, will be gone.

The thread is not about Obama. It is a hypothetical thread about what I would do as president. I would find ways that were legal to do just as those governors have asked me to do ... cut government funding to their states. I do not see how they would criticize my actions as I would be doing what they want ... cutting government funding.

Which, apparently, is about your acting (hypothetically) in an illegal and unconstitutional fashion as the Little Marxist Dictator already is acting. So, as we need to do with the LMD, we would have to charge you with articles of impeachment and convict you of them in the Senate. Don't worry. The time is coming for that with the LMD too.

For starters - the Fed should NOT be giving money to States/Commonwealths (S/C). The Fed should take less money to only support National projects from citizens of those S/C and let the S/C raise there own taxes for S/C projects.

You do realize that all the government funding, as you call it, comes from the people in the states. What we need is a good revolution to get rid of the Federal Government as now constituted and the millions leaching off the taxpayer!

So you would be in favor or cutting all federal funding to road construction and road repairs in your state?

And you favor stopping all federal funding for disability insurance to all who are disabled in your state?

You favor cutting all $205 million sent to your state for research, primarily at the universities?

Yes I am! It should be up to the State or Commonwealth ( S/C) to provide for that and in a way that the S/C sees fit

Salty, I was asking Old ... but thanks for your answer.

How much do you believe your state taxes would go up if all federal funding were cut?

I would like to hear answers not just from Old - but several others as well

Cant give you a number - but I tend to think it would be less as the reps in a State or Commowealth (S/C) have fewer voters - and thus more accountable. ( IE 1 Congressman - 500,000 citizens / 1 NY St Assy - 125,000 citizens)

Its easy for a US Senator to vote on a project for his S/C when he knows the whole country will be paying for it. Also its well known that Senators & Congressman will "trade" votes.

You can't be that obtuse CTB. If the Federal Government were not sucking the taxpayer dry the states would have sufficient money to do what the states are supposed to do.

The Federal Government has one primary mission, to defend the country against all its enemies and Obama is throwing in the towel on that.

You didn't answer my questions. Do you want all federal funding sent to your state to be stopped?

For every $1.92 people from your state send to Washington they receive back $2.68.

Actually - there are several missions

    Article I - Section 8

    (Note: I have slightly paraphased)

    2) regulate Commerce with foreign nations...
    3) establish uniform Rule of Naturaliztion...Bankruptcies...
    4) coin money...fix standard of weights and measures....
    5) Punishment of counterfeiting
    6) Establish Post Office and Post Roads
    7) Promote Science and Art... exclusice rights (ie copyright)
    8) Constitue lower courts
    9) Punish Pirates
    10) Declare War
    11) Raise Armies ...but no more than two years)
    12) Provide a Navy (no time limit)
    13) Make Rules for land and naval forces
    14) Calling forth the Militia
    15) Organizing the Militia
    16) Control Washington, DC
    17) Make Laws...

6 of 18 (1/3) deal with the military.

The Feds have a big job - with the items listed - they do not need to add anything else

No. 17 covers the legality of all you say should be cut. They made laws. Does not matter if you or I like it

Just curious, why is it that the Red States have the most folk who want government cut, but it is the red states that, for the most part, receive more from the government than they pay to the government?.

The Federal Government has no money except that which it takes from the people or prints. I want it to stop printing money and reduce the tax take so that bureaucrats don't make twice what the taxpayer does and the states can carry out their responsibility.

Well the Feds and the dam yankees shafted the south for 100 years. Perhaps it is payback time

The primary mission is still the defense of the country. About 8 of those listed fall in that category. Obama is throwing in the towel on defense. I said in 2007 on this Forum his goal was the destruction of this country. He has been successful so far. Question is what can he do in the next 3 years.

So why is it they require more money from the Feds to stay afloat than the Blue states? Seems they are welfare states the Blue states are supporting.

I would be all for that, if we could opt out of federal income taxes and various federal programs and regulations.

I think C.T.Boy has misrepresented and over simplified things, unless he wants us to believe Montana costs the federal government more than it spends on welfare in New York City, alone.

Entitlement abuse needs to be addressed. The reason the dems won't do it is because they will lose votes.
