Is anybody here who is into praying on your knees?

Not only is God not looking at your physical posture he doesn't even listen to your words. Your class is how humans communicate, not spirits.

Ro 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

 

I went back and read his opening post, and I think some may have misunderstood. I think he is talking about those folks who inflict pain, b/c they think it makes them closer to God (like the dude in the (gasp) DaVinci Code)

I tihnk most Christians consider it an honor to kneel, even if in pain. Thats not to say they are doing it IN ORDER to be in pain, so as to make their prayers more effective.

 

HP: Joh 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

How can He hear me if He doesn’t even listen to my words as you state? What is it about the intercession of the Holy Spirit that would negate the words we utter to the Lord that He has promised to hear?

 

I don't know anyone who kneels for pain. I kneel to get closer to God and try to be as humble in Spirit as I am in body while kneeling. I hope he meant something like the movie and not good Christian people who kneel to pray.
If it were only the last statement of simply sick and the other statements were not there then I could believe the same but with all the other statements it surely looks suspect to me. Maybe he will clarify.

In German (translated) Jack fell down and the pail of water..............

A slight difference in wording

xdisciple must translate what he is saying into English....Give him the benefit of doubt....perhaps it is sick to get down on broken knees to pray when one can pray standing.

I am glad someone else reads it the same as did I....He was also connecting it to those who must flagellate themselves to benefit from prayer.

IN the ANglican Church we have prayer benches in every pew...In all my Baptist Churches I STOOD behind the pulpit in prayer,,,,and most times the congregation stood in prayer. if someone in congregation was asked to lead in prayer,,he stood every time, not kneeled.

Dr. A.W. Tozer always kneeled to pray and he was found dead in his study after a night of prayer in that very posture.

Prayer is of the heart.....always.

HP: I had never heard that before, but few men have touched my heart in a greater way by their books than A.W. Tozer. Thank God for the legacy he left behind.

 

Boy! that sure is putting a slant on it for sure. God forgive me if I ever get down on broken knees.

 

HP...Just a personal note. Dr. Tozer was a very close friend. I had been in his church for his last sermon. His wife called me when she found him in his study.

I agree, he was a great soldier of holiness, and he lived every bit of what he preached. He was not a great orator, but when Tozer spoke, I must use a cliche and say, "Everyone listened."

God doesn't need to hear your words, he searches your heart and see's what you mean as opposed to what you say. The scripture from John, an old preacher used to say, it means we Christians have the number on speed dial and non-Christians, get a call cannot be completed as dialed. he doesn't take calls from unknown callers. What is that called, anonymous call rejection?

 

I tought a few years from, "the knowledge of the holy". Great book!

 

Glad to find someone of such statue felt it to be humble to kneel to pray.

 

Well yes I do....and yes it is not comfortable. I have trained myself in incremental stages so to speak. In France there is a medical condition called Catholic Knees.

I pray on my knees as a penance, for my unworthiness if you like, as a petitioner to a King for God is surely worthy of that. I use to be proud of my stiff neckedness (I bow to no-one), but I am happy to bow down to my Lord. I pray in my chair as well, and yes I have a hassock as well.

 

I find it interesting that the one who posed the question in the original post has yet to reply to any responses to his question. Am I the only one wondering about this?

 

No, SBC; you are not the only one wondering why he hasn't responded to at least tell us if we are misquoting him or does he think people who pray on their knees are sick.

 

Jim thanks for sharing this personal note. Dr. Tozer's writings have made a huge impact on my spiritual life. Rarely a day goes by that I do not read something that he wrote.

 

The best way to answer this question?

What physical position would you put yourself in if you found yourself before the Throne of God? Would you continue to stand while praying or would you at least kneel and bow your head, or would you actually prostrate yourself before God?

 

Good answer Inquiring Mind, I wouldn't dare question how someone prays.

 

I cannot begin to postulate how I will react when I first "stand" before God. I may very well be so low down the totem pole that I will be pleased to be there, let alone react how people want me to react.
