it's wrong for a woman to wear pants if her culture
generally considers pants to be male-only clothing.

does that apply in the u.s.? used to, certainly.

even so, if i was female i'd stick to modest dresses
and skirts since i don't like the primary reason
for the changes here - feminism.

I agree too! It was not the godly Christian women who began wearing pants, it was the feminists.

In addition I like to wear long and loose dresses. It is a good way to remain as seperate as possible from the world. The world wears whatever they feel like, the Christian should realize that God is interested in everything we do, including our clothing.

I am learning that the churches that have no standards are the ones I will avoid. I am sick of seeing professing Christian girls and women come in looking as if they were harlots. I don't think my husband should have to see them when we worship God, nor do I want to look at them. And I certainly do not want my daughters to think that they are good role models.

Just so people will understand the difference:

If a woman came into your church one Sunday morning wearing biking shorts, what would you do about it?

We'd greet her and help her find a seat. During the summer, we have several families who come in bermuda shorts and flip flops. At least they come!

    Don,
Personally I witness to anyone the Lord leads me to no matter what they are or are not wearing. However, if she was born again and she continued to dress that way I would pray that possibly the Lord would give an opening for sharing about modesty with her.

Great article Reformer. I agree with you. Thankfully, God looks at the heart, and not the clothing.

    I disagree.
There are several scenarios where it would be much more modest for a woman to wear slacks.

My wife wears pants for two reasons:

    1. I am convinced that it is not only permitted, but perfectly acceptable.

    2. Out of submission to me.

So my wife obeys because of an interpretive reason, and also to demonstrate that Christ is her lord by submitting to my wishes. My wife does not wear tight jeans/pants. In fact, plenty of dresses are worn tighter than any pants my wife would ever put on.

My wife wears only dresses/skirts, but not because I make her, it is a personal choice. She wants to look like a woman and she wants to feel feminine.

I don't think it is wrong for women to wear pants, however.

Good point, a kilt isnot considered a dress, but it looks a lot like a skirt to me. I admire the Scots for many things, but if I were one I wouldn't be wearin' a kilt.

In UK pants are underwear  so I very much doubt that any respectable lady would turn up wearing only underwear [IMG]
I always wear a skirt or dress when attending worship ... and cover my head.

    Gwyneth,
Are they called trousers where you live? That is interesting.
How nice to hear that you are covering your head when you attend worship services.

Yes, HCL, we call them trousers or slacks, I have always worn a hat to church, as my gransma told us it was the right thing to do, and now realise that it is so. Gwyneth

    Think about this saying ladies;
"She wears the pants in that family!" Saying that she is the boss of her home and family. Now, that, among the many reasons the bible speaks of, convicted me like no other! I do NOT want to be seen as the boss of my family! That is for my husband.
Think about that one for a while [IMG]

May I share a short yet true story. When I was living down in WV I was speaking to the director of a christan school. He told me about a girls home volleyball game. The home team wore (modest lenght) shorts. The visting team wore Kulots (sp?) The school director told me, as in any volleyball game many girls ended up on the floor, can you guess which team was a bit more modest after falling down. by the way, the pastor of visting team told the home team they would have to cancell their next game as they do not allow girls to wear shorts in their church.

    Kristine,
I agree with you. I am still struggling with the feminism that was ingrained in me from childhood even though I don't wear the pants figuratively nor literally.

    To SaltcityBaptist,
That is why I personally do not partake of activities that would make me unmodest.
