Though I do not think Cruz would be a good candidate I believe he is eligible to run for president as a natural born citizen. It is the same arguments I used to say Obama was a natural born citizen. One difference is that Obama was born in Hawaii and Cruz in Canada. Last time I checked Canada was an independent country. I am not sure how the dual citizenship, US and Canadian plays out in this one. I wonder if Cuba considers Cruz a citizen of Cuba? After all his father was born in Cuba.

I wonder how many on the BB who were so against Obama being considered natural born will now defend Cruz? That would seem a contradiction in thinking.

Funny how what goes around comes around.

Note the birth certificate is Canadian. Hmm, pretty short form I'd say.

Yep, same issue as Obama. Both had one parent who was a US Citizen. But Obama was born in the United States and Cruz wasn't. The latter will be a non-issue with the GOP because his name last name isn't Obama.

And that will pretty well tell us why they really opposed Obama. But they will never admit to that fact.

I will say that he is not eligible for president since he was not born here, but I will say good on him for releasing his birth certificate unlike our most transparent president in history.

I was thinking that too, but it appears current legal thinking is that, so long as the child is born to a natural US citizen, even if they are out of the country at the time, the child is still counted as a natural US citizen. I'm curious to see how this plays out. I can't imagine he would mount a campaign if it was so obvious that he wasn't even legally allowed to. At least in the Obama discussions there was vagueness and obfuscation over the issue.

If he runs it will be in interesting to see how the Liberals react to this since they said that Obama's birth certificate was a non issue so will they be hypocrites if they try to make this an issue, all this is liberals we are talking about.

Cruz is a lawyer, and a very sharp lawyer. I bet he's already got his arguments all worked out and will go to court if anyone challenges him on this. He will likely set the precedent that a "natural born citizen" merely means that one of the parents was born in the USA. This means that at some point in the future there will be a presidential candidate born to an "anchor baby". That adult anchor baby will probably not even be living in the US when the future presidential candidate is born.

This is where a Ted Cruz candidacy is headed.

Will it be hypocritical for those who damned Obama's birth to say it is fine for Cruz to run seeing that he was born outside the US

He should be fine as John McCain was also born outside the US to US citizens.

I already said he is not eligible so no there is no hypocrisy on my part for this issue. I know I'm not playing the part liberals have written for me but I'm fine with that.

Cruz Birthers! lol - in fact, a whole string of them.

Now many people (on both sides) have an opportunity to flip-flop!

Way to go Teddy (well, his parents actually).

I know that you are not aware how much that lie you keep telling about Republicans hating black people hurts those of us here.

You said that GOP didn't send representatives to Selma because they didn't want to upset people like me - southern, conservative, and GOP. I tried twice to talk to you about that drive-by accusation and you ignored me.

It's really petty of you and you didn't used to be this way on the BB.

Others who keep painting us all as haters, yes. But you didn't used to be this way.

That wasn't so hard, was it? Took you all of what, about 3 minutes to dig that up?

Wonder why it took Obama 3 years?

And THAT is my real issue with Obama: non-transparency.

No, not everybody, I would never say that. But there are a large number who are very prejudice. I worked as a volunteer at a hospital and the jokes that conservative GOPers told about Obama were simply horrific.

I would never say everybody in the GOP are haters. There is no issue in the US where everyone is on one side or the other.

The Southern policy begun by Nixon, and dishonestly denied by some even to this day, was a policy that played on race and on the passage of the Civil Rights Act under Johnson.

As an aside, I am reading a memoir of a woman who lived in Rhodesia for quite a number of years. A number of time she has said that when she was young she did not realize how racist the White society were where she lived, nor how racist she was. That awareness came about later.

I believe there are people who honestly believe they are not racist or prejudice, but actually are. An example of this. I have a very good friend whose father fought with the Flying Tigers in China in WW II. She said she had never thought that she was prejudice against the Japanese. She said the first time she was in Japan she suddenly realized she was very angry and was thinking, "So these are the b******* who were trying to kill my father." She said that boiled to the surface of her consciousness and that feeling was completely unknown to her before she traveled to Japan. This was the only time I ever her use a word such as B*******.

I would not call you a hater. There are others on the BB who, under different circumstances I would.

Not sure when used to be was. I have been on this board two years longer than him and I have never known a time when he wasn't.

If you look at the seal, that's not even embossed. It's just a flat decal. The director's signature is obviously an ink-stamp. Place of birth: Calgary, Alberta. Yeah--way to nail that down. Was he born in a hospital? A tent? On the prairie? Sheesh!
