For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Rom 2:28-29

Carter has never had any guts. He made the statement. It made it past ,I'm sure, many proofreadings. He meant it. Now he doesn't want to take the heat for it.

And says he made a mistake. What he is really admitting is that he reallizes it was a mistake to let his true feelings be known.

Carter apologized and called this wording "stupid":
It is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian groups make it clear that they will end the suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism when international laws and the ultimate goals of the Roadmap for Peace are accepted by Israel.

Um, he just called it "stupid", and apologized.

Well, he didn't make a mistake in saying that the Palestinians have to agree to stop terrorism. But he has more confidence in the Road Map than I do. And I'm not aware of what international law Israel is flouting.

    If he had said:
It is imperative that the general Arab community and all significant Palestinian groups make it clear that they will end the suicide bombings and other acts of terrorism in response to a genuine offer of a viable and independent Palestinian state.

Then he'd have been right on target. The primary thrust of the sentence was "Palestinians have to renounce terror if they want to be free."

Amen to that. Shame on him for the rest.

Surely you understand, Galatian, that it doesn't matter what Carter says or does. People like Carpro will never be satisfied.

These right-wing fanatics have made Carter the worse president in history, and anything that threatens this must be fought against.

After all, they can't have Mr. Carter doing anything to spoil this twisted image they have constructed.

No, I believe Jimmy did it all by himself.

Yes, shall we make a list of his own doings as the worst president in US History? Even a list will not silence those fellow liberals who support him under the flag of the Democratic Party. Sad.:BangHead:

Carter did, after all, make it virtually certain that Israel would not be militarily defeated, having brokered the Camp David accords that produced the only lasting peace treaty between Israel and an Arab nation. And since Egypt was the most powerful Arab state, Carter did much to assure the security of Israel.

That will put him considerably above presidents like Bush and Grant.

    Giving radical Islam its start

    This from Dinesh D'sousa:

"Carter administration’s role in assisting with the downfall of the Shah is one of America’s great foreign policy disasters of the twentieth century. In trying to get rid of the bad guy, Carter got the worse guy. His failure, as former Democratic senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan once said, was the result of being “unable to distinguish between America’s friends and enemies.” Carter does not deserve sole discredit for these actions. This intellectual framework that shaped Carter’s misguided strategy was supplied by the political left.
By aiding the Shah’s ouster and with Khomeini’s consolidation of power, the left collaborated in giving radical Islam its greatest victory in the modern era. Incredibly this same cast of characters who lost Iran wants to block Bush’s policies in Iraq. In doing so they are playing with fire. The radical Muslims who already control Iran are trying to bring a second major state, Iraq, into their orbit. Then, they have said, they will target Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Yes, Iraq maybe a mess but in trying to get out of a bad situation, we don’t want to create a worse situation. Insurgency and sectarian strife is dangerous, but Iraq in the hands of Iranian fanatics or Al Qaeda fanatics is far more dangerous. America doesn’t need more foolish advice from Jimmy Carter. What it needs from him is an apology."

The disaster in Iran was caused by the US, but not by abandoning the Shah. It was caused by the CIA installing the Shah after overthrowing the government of Iran.

Eventually, the Iranian opposition became too widespread to keep under control. The United States made the Iranian revolution possible.

Carter could not have saved the Shah from being overthrown. He gave him and his family asylum, which is all that could be done. Once the armed forces of Iran went over to the mullahs, there was nothing short of a war that would have done any good.

And in Iraq, you see how well that worked out. You're blaming the wrong president.
