    History is full of irony, and this one to me is fascinating. John Hansen was the first President of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. Actually, he was the first to serve over one year, which is why he gets the credit. Terms did not last too long under this form of government.

    George Washington is actually the first President under the Constitution. The irony is in this article, Washington wrote John Hansen a letter of congratulations on being elected the first POTUS.
