Finally broke down and got a iPad mini as I am running out of room for real books and will no longer buy anymore unless they are study guide type books. Buying iBooks will cost me more as I will no longer be able to buy books USED which I do a bit of so I am not sure how this will all work out. I also happened to notice that RC Sproul has a number of FREE iBooks.

Is there as big of a library of iBooks as Kindle books? What of academic and more niche theology books that are not yet in electronic form or may never be in electronic form? Does AW Pink have a FREE iBook collection somewhere online?

Don't worry about iBooks - I hardly ever use it. Go to Amazon and download the free Kindle app. Once you do that, you will have a Kindle. Make sure you have an account with Amazon and get it all set and then when books come up for free, you can grab them off of Amazon easily. I don't have my Kindle or iPad here with me right now but I'd say I have about 300+ theology books and I pad for less than 5 of them.

Look up David C. Cook and sign up for his e-mails. He often has books for free. I will also post over here when I find some. I've been getting a lot of good study books from Wiersbe recently and I was once able to get Grudem's Systematic Theology for just $2! It's great!!

$2 for his systematic theology? How? Yes I would like to get Warren Wiersbe's commentaries.

Any possibility you could return/exchange the iPad Mini for a Kindle Fire? A Kindle Fire is considered a pretty decent tablet itself; and you'd have the Kindle app already installed.

Look for an app called BitLit. It's available for Android (which the Kindle Fire uses); but I'm not sure about iOS (which the iPad uses). BitLit allows you to take a picture of the books you already own and submits them to see if an electronic version is available through the publishers they have agreements with. If it is, you take another picture of the book's copyright page, and then you'll be given a link to download the electronic version.

That leads to the possibility of having some, most, or even all of your books on your device to carry with you all the time.

Do you need to own the books or do you simply want to read them? If you don't need to own them check with your local library. They may have e-books available to check out and read. My library has thousands of e-books available. I use the Kindle app on my tablet so when I go to "borrow" the book it directs me to Amazon where I "buy" the book for free for three weeks. After three weeks my library loan time expires and I can no longer access the e-book on my tablet. It's a pretty slick system.

I love apple and their devices. Why would I switch to Android/Kindle/Windows Phone/Blackberry?

I just went to Amazon and searched on "free theology books" and here are a few you might like:

Dwight Moody - Sovereign Grace http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TS8X0I/?tag=baptis04-20

Tozer's The Pursuit of God http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TQ8GP2/?tag=baptis04-20

    R. A. Torrey The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TREEAW/?tag=baptis04-20

Andrew Murray Lord Teach Us to Pray http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004TIJJOW/?tag=baptis04-20

Wiersbe has no free books right now but they do come up periodically. Usually free books are only free for a day or two so when they are posted, grab them even if you're not sure you want them. :)

As you have seen, R. C. Sproul's Crucial Questions series is all free. I believe that is 13 books.

I think I can safely speak for all of those that have ebooks, we collect more than we read.

"Of the collecting of ebooks there is no end and much studying is wearisome to the flesh."

My toughest time in life is finishing a book and knowing I want to read another one. But there are SOOOO many choices!!! Do I choose a classic? Maybe a fun little fiction? Or one of the many theology books? How about checking out to see if these other books are good for the kids? ARG!!! It makes it SO much harder! LOL

Just throwing out options for consideration.

Have you looked for the BitLit app in the iStore?

I actually have mostly Apple devices and got a Kindle Fire HD 6 as a possible gift for my daughter for Christmas and while it's nice, it's not as good as an Apple device. But I gotta say, if I couldn't afford an iPad or something, the Fire isn't too bad, especially if you want it for mostly a reader and a bit of web surfing and stuff. It was just $109 for the 16g which wasn't bad!

Our public library is just three blocks away but I use Mid-York Library Systems loan program a lot. I've borrowed 50+ books for my Kindle, use them for 14 days and poof they are gone. I had to wait a month to borrow one book but there are usually enough copies available for instant download. No clutter, no overdue books. It's a win-win for me.

e-sword has a bible program for ipad and biblesupport.com has free modules. Since Android was mentioned mysword.info has a nice program for free plus biblesupport.com has modules for it as well.

As recently as a month ago, I swore I would never get a Kindle.

Then, a family member won a new Kindle as a door prize at an office Christmas party and so they gave me their old one as an early Christmas present.

I still prefer real books, but being able to take a hundred books with me and the fact that a lot of the books I like are self-published and no available in real book form, it's quickly become my favorite toy.

Went to my library and they only have about 200 or so Christian books in their books library so that is not many ebooks. I see apple has a number in their iBooks library that cost money.
