From other threads you all know how much the bride and I enjoy cruising. Getting older and finally having an "empty nest" has its advantages!

Some want to wait until retirement to take trips, but I've seen many face illness or such at that time. We decided to take a major trip each year (began at age 45).

I will celebrate my 55th birthday in March in Venezuela and on the Dawn Princess. Anybody else have trips for 2003 planned??

Great! I know you'll have a very feliz cumpleaƱos! Maybe one day if and when MY husband has been teaching a while, we'll be able to do something like that, too! Right now, we are doing good to pay for this here internet service he is required to have! (butm hey, I like the perks of that one!) Congratulations and I hope you enjoy it immensely!!

Next year, for my 40th b-day, I am hoping to go to London.

I'm planning a trip to England to visit a friend, but I don't know exactly when that'll be. He should be set up in London by the time I can scrape together the cash to go, and we'll spend some time there, then hop over to Amsterdam for a few days.

And I'm planning a road trip through New England for early fall. That should be fun, but not exotic or anything. I've just never been further north than Manhattan. [IMG]

We love cruising also. We have decided it is the only way to travel...if we can find an ocean [IMG]

We only sailed on the Holland America Line. They keep giving us perks for return cruises.

We just returned from a Christmas Cruise to the eastern Caribbean on the new ship the Zuiderdam.
We received an upgrade to a suite that cost twice as much as we paid for. They have us hooked [IMG]

We have a cruise booked on the same ship for Christmas and New Year's 2003-04.

In May, we are going to Alaska on the Holland American Volendam, a smaller ship that the Zuiderdam.

Bob, have you been on other cruise lines...If so, how do they compare.

We would like to do the Venzuela, Panama Canal, etc, but we don't have enough time off yet. Have to wait until my husband retires.

We are celebrating his birthday, my birthday, our anniversay...Our granddaughter's graduation from HS, our niece's graduation from College, and anything else we can think of to celebrate [IMG]

Been the Canal and Colombia on Princess, as well as the Western Caribbean. They are head-and-shoulders above the competition there, unless you move up to the "deluxe" level (Radisson, Silver Star type which START at 4k per person).

Carnival was geared for kids and teens, and not nearly as good. Shows, foods, amenities just not up to Princess. We did the Eastern Caribbean with them.

Royal Caribbean was inbetween, but still not the level of meals, service et al. We did the Pacific coast to Mazatlan with them.

Have NEVER been on HA, although I've been told they are the BEST on the Alaska circuit (probably our next destination). Their ships have been aging, but guess they are meeting competition with a whole new fleet.

We have been really happy with HA, but we have not been on another line. THe first ship we went on was very old, but at the time, to us it was beautiful, but we have been on newer ships and the newest one.

It seems that HA is beginning to cater to families as well as older people.
