PRINCETON, N.J. (BP)--Princeton University's Peter Singer, widely known for his founding of the Great Ape Project to grant apes the same rights as humans, said Sept. 11 he would kill a disabled baby “if that was in the best interests of the baby and of the family as a whole.”

    From the article:

“Many people find this shocking, yet they support a woman’s right to have an abortion,” Singer, a professor of bioethics, said in a question and answer article in The Independent, a British newspaper. “One point on which I agree with opponents of abortion is that, from the point of view of ethics rather than the law, there is no sharp distinction between the fetus and the newborn baby.”

I agree with what he's saying here (NOT that it's okay to kill ANY baby); I've never understood the difference between killing a baby while it's in the womb, and slamming it against the wall as soon as it's born. Same result. Dead baby. Yet, most "pro-choice" advocates would be appalled at the idea of killing a baby as soon as it's born. Makes no sense to me.

Senator Barbara Boxer says a child isnt a child until it taken home.

Boxer: I would make this statement: That this Constitution, as it currently is - - some of you want to amend it to say that life begins at conception. I think when you bring your baby home, when your baby is born - - and there is no such thing as partial-birth - - the baby belongs to your family and has all the rights. But I am not willing to amend the Constitution to say that a fetus is a person, which I know you would.

This should surprise no one. It is the next logical step in the pro death movement. First its acceptable to kill a baby before it is born; then it becomes acceptable after they are born. First we allow people to die when they are comatose and non responsive. Then we allow assisted suicide for the terminally ill. Next will come the killing of elderly citizens or non terminally ill if the cost of treatment does not balance out with their “worth” to society. Death for the mentally retarded will come next. Eventually you could see death for the poor or disabled or even death for those holding a minority religious or political view.

Once we establish the baseline that human life is no different than any other animal (ie secular evolution) then human life is worth no more than agricultural animals. You can balance the worth of a person based on what it will cost to keep them alive and what they will contribute to society as a whole. Individual liberties are gone and all is done for the common good. Unless God intervenes I can see our society headed that direction.

Allowing someone to die when they are dying is not the same as euthanasia. To make someone live as a vegetable that would have died 10, 20, 50, 100 years ago just because we have machines is not what I think God intended. IMHO.

    The rest I agree with.

Wrongful life lawsuits have been going on for a while.

I wrote an article on them a few years ago. If I can find it again I'll post it.

    Great thread.
It is amazing (so sadly) that the heart of man could be disposed to kill a baby, and that people could be hired to do that. for a fee.

It's even more amazing that millions of americans are not outraged . . .

And it is worse that some call themselves Christian as they support these evil actions.

This is exactly what happened in Germany, starting in the 1920's. They did not try to keep older people, retarted people, severely ill people alive. They practiced euthasia (which, ironically, means "the good death"). So killing Jews and others was sort of a continuum in an already desensitized government and society.

    Some comments:
    1. Euthansia is not allowing someone who is dying to die. It is actively bringing on death before it's time.
    2. Being a "vegetable" does not mean one is dying.
    3. People are never "vegetables." This is not even a medical term. A few people have come out of this state.
