If you needed open heart surgery how would you chose your surgeon.
1.I am only new at this game but willing to learn
2.Performed this operation many times before, have young associate to assist.
If I had a serious car accident and there was no
choice of doctors I would GROVEL to get any Doctor that was around.
And when you are in hospital and a young pastor turns up doing visitation, and wishes to pray for you,I am sure nobody would say sorry you are too young. But having said this, is it appropriate to put any professional person in a position of care when they dont have a clue what they are doing.

g'day mate, Timothy was very young.

The number one priority for a pastor/preacher is the correct handling of God's Word. Unfortunately, preacher boys are learning "ministry" in a class room and not God's Word. They get to churches without a strong base and not correctly doing "ministry".

    G'day Mate,

I think you may have been able to gather from my post that I too think age and experience can be very important, but also that I do not think they should necessarily be seen by Christians as the most important factors. Your analogy about how one might choose a surgeon actually highlights one point I was making very well, namely that the major problems I faced due to my age were with the assumptions often made by older people due to my age, rather than with any real lack due to my age. The problem with your analogy is that it assumes that the role age and experience play in a field like the medical field can be directly equated with the role such factors play in the pastorate. But this forgets that God may have called and equipped a young man for the pastorate. And if we refuse to accept that such a man can be gifted and have wisdom beyond his physical years, then it is really God's ability to transform and work through him that we are questioning. To simply equate physical age, and the life experience that comes with it, with spiritual age/maturity in a christian can be very unwise indeed. At any rate, what is really the most important issue is whether or not a young man such as PreachtheWord has been called by God to the pastoral ministry, and it sounds very much as though he has since his current church seems to think so and his pastor has been mentoring him toward that goal.

My two cents: A good pastor, young or old, needs to not only preach and believe sound Biblical doctrine, but also needs to have...

How much more important can a job get, than winning souls for Christ? The morals of a pastor need to be higher than most other professions. And the diversity of skills, in being able to successfully converse with all people of all ages is almost impossible.Unless of course he walks with The Holy Spirit.I know of no other profession that regulary needs the prayers and support of so many people in order to survive. And then comes the courage and skill in handling those matters for others where there is just no page or book to go to.May I offer to all Pastors the love of God and a very merry Christmas to you all. I personally feel that each case should be weighed on its own merits. No two pastors are exactly alike. No two church members or congregations are exactly alike. There are young pastors out there who have what it takes to lead a church. There are some older pastors who have no business in the pulpit at all, not to mention leading a church. We can't really group them by age - that is like prejudicial stereotyping.

Noticed some people choose not to include their age and full history in their Profile, and others do.This is not to say they must it is optional, but it does help in understanding a person's comments.Example, place a chair in a room, and ask a carpenter, doctor,or a dressmaker to describe it to you,and you will get three completely diferent descriptions.whilst none are wrong ,they are very different.Suppose thats what makes the Baptist Board the success that it is.

I think most of us don't mind others knowing our
ages, but I do not want my actual birthdate on
the Internet. Just for the record, I am 53.

One of my pastors is @ 51 - 52, and the others is
@ 32. The latter is still in school, in about his 7th
year of college. He does not preach as much as
the other pastor, because of his necessary com-
mitment to study, but he taught this past Sabbath,
and it was an excellent, well thought-out,
    thoroughly-studied sermon re rebellion against
leaders, with references to Num 12:1 - 16; Isaiah
    59:1 - 2; John 1: 17 - 18; Heb 111:17 - 19; and
numerous other Scriptures. His young age is
not preventative to his ability to teach well.
