    Just what everyone is looking for-- another poll about tithing ;) . This one, I hope, is more comprehensive, dealing with the definition, the application, and the effects.

    I couldn't do the poll, becasue many of the 'answers' have to do with what the christian is going to do about faith. Will they trust God or not. Thats up to them not me.

    The tithe is definately old testament and was never for money.

    I have never liked the term "to PAY thithe". Pay according to the dictionary mens 1) make due return for goods or services 2) discharge indebtedness for

    Giving to the Lord should be done freely.

    I personally use 10% as a guideline. I don't see the tithe as a NT requirement.

    It is my understanding that a tithe was given twice a year and another one every three years thus resulting in a net tithe of 23.33%. Since I never hear anyone preach this I can only conclude that they are not preaching tithing as taught in the old testament. Also, since it is not in the NT (rule of thumb) then I conclude that it isn't for Christians.

    It is intresting that the only Tithe being discussed here is money. You do realize that it is more than just the almighty dollar right ?

    I aplogize for my brasheness, but as I understand it has much more to do with your time AND your money. To give just money would be, only doing half what you were supposed to. Or am I wrong (which can and usually is the case)

    10% is our tithe to the Lord. whether it be old testament or new. why do christians separate the old and the new testaments? they shouldn't be separated. the new testament is based on the old testament. get it in your heads people. we gotta follow the commandments in both the old and new t's. although, the laws that God set out for the Jews are not the ones the Gentiles are to follow. anyways, that's a WHOLE different subject.
    it does mention tithing in the new testament. corinthians i believe. having a tenth of our income ready for the next sabbath.
    10% tithing, anything over that is an offering to the Lord. we're offering more money (or time as Wife of One suggests, but we should be giving ALL our time to the Lord no matter what. so for now, unless proven otherwise, i think it's money.) to the Lord for whatever purpose He wants to use it in.
    I don't always give to the church i attend. mainly because it's not always where God wants me to put the tithe and offerings. another reason is because i'm not a member of any church 'cuz i don't agree with membership. again, that's a WHOLE other topic.

    i hope it all makes sense to ya'll.
