The heresy of soul sleep is refuted by the Apostle Paul in the following Scripture:

    2 Corinthians 5:1-8
    1. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
    2. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
    3. If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
    4. For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
    5. Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.
    6. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
    7. (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
    8. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Verse 6 and 8 rules out any nonsense about soul sleep until the resurrection of the body since Paul states in Verse 6: whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord and in Verse 8: that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

If that doesn't satisfy you try the words of our Lord Himself:

Luke 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Now there is no Biblical record that the thief was resurrected, in fact the converse is true [1 corinthians 15].

I've pointed to this verse in the past, but wopik uses the New World Translation's hack-job which mis-places the comma.

Preachers don't preach the plain truth that Jesus taught-------Jesus said Lazarus was a sleep / dead.

Paul and Jesus do NOT contradict each other:

    1Thes
    4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

    4:14
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

    4:15
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

    Hello, Gershom

As you can see, Jesus and Paul both taught that the dead are unconsious/asleep------waiting to be awkened at His Return, the Reurrection Day(2Timothy 4:6-8).

    Jesus: "Our friend Lazarus sleeps"

Paul: "even so them also which sleep in Jesus..."

Daniel 12:2: "...many who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake..."

Doesn't YOUR Bapist church teach these Bible Truths?

How can you believe the dead don't sleep, when Jesus and Paul say they do.

Perhaps he is a Seventh Day Adventist. As far as I am aware only the Jehovah's Witnesses and Seventh Day Adventists are the only groups that teach soul sleep. Actually the Jehovah's Witnesses teach that the soul ceases to exist so he must be a Seventh Day Adventist. Of course he may believe that in soul sleep the soul ceases to exist.

actually, we have a small inter-denominational study group here in upstate NY where we meet sometimes twice a week. People of all denominations in the neighborhood attend, if interested.

If you don't believe the dead sleep, then what do you do when you see the word s-l-e-e-p in the Bible?

do you just ignore this stuff?

Still not answering. Didn't ask about your study group where you "sometimes" meet.
