    Find old books, I don't know why really but they always seem better then much of the new stuff out there today.

    Agreed. Which is why I recommend the Puritans, the stalwarts, and our Baptist forefathers such as Broadus, Boyce, Dagg, etc.

    I would encourage you not to cut yourself off from MacArthur. He is not a televangelist and is one of the most solid expositors out there today. Most of his books are well worth reading. Put your "personal thing" aside and start with "The Vanishing Conscience." It is a book worth reading.
