I think MacArthur idea is biblical. Even though lordship salvation its not a biblical term, its teaching is. The Bible does not divide Christ and his offices, repentance from obedience or faith from works as to create a false dichotomy.

In the Acts Christ is offered as Lord and Savior, not as Savior and Lord. Salvation is all of grace and grace is free and eternal life is a free gift. We deserve nothing of all that but there is a danger in overemphasizing grace that leads to the neglect of our responsibility. Grace is not a cheap grace, it cost the Son of God his death on the Cross to make it available to us and the Cross calls us to self-denial and discipleship. It does not call us to live half of our life under the saviourhood of Jesus and the rest under the lordship of Jesus.

We don't earn salvation with works but we should not separate faith and works or Jesus as our Savior and Jesus as our Lord as if we have the option to choose either one or the other.

A.W.Tozer has written about these issues before MacArthur and Bonhoeffer also reminded us that grace is not cheap.

He teaches that we are saved by Grace alone, thru faith alone, but he also would be teaching that one cannot have a real assurance of their salvation unless jesus is the lord over all areas of our lives...
