I thought it was interesting how this woman has discarded biblical truth under the guise of soul-winning. Thank God for the PCA making a biblical stand on this subject.

I think it is a little over the top to pull the magazines from the stand, especially when they're still available, and all you have to do is ask.

It is like they're afraid to let people know they're selling it, so they just hide it. If it is THAT big of a deal (which it shouldn't be), then why are you still selling them?

LifeWay is a retail store. They don't sell strictly SBC material and shouldn't feel pressured to hide their non-SBC material, because I gaurantee this whole problem arose because someone called and complained about it.

I know they have sold non-SBC stuff for years. I am not sure why they are pulling it now and still having it available.... makes no sense.

A reactionary denomination making yet another reactionary decision. I love the profit over principle approach they are taking. We don't agree, but we sure will sell you one if you really want it.

The magazine has ties to T D Jakes and has featured articles by or about T D Jakes, which should have been a red flag long before this issue came out.

Right. But he denies the Trinity. And he's a prosperity teacher.

I've always seen TD Jakes books, Hagee books, among other horribly unorthodox leaders in the stores.....and then someone freaks out about a magazine cover?

The best term to call it has already been used: reactionary. That is what the SBC, along with many other Christians, have become. A people known for how they overreact.

I don't think this is overrreaction. The SBC does have as part of their faith statement or whatever it's called that women should not serve as pastors. It is perfectly legitimate for a Christian to hold this view. In fact, I do, and I am a former feminist in the sense of being pro-choice, not taking husband's names, etc. I believe the bible supports the view that women are not to have ecclesiastical authority.

And Lifeway is owned by the SBC so they have a right to pull whatever magazine they want. I only think they should never have sold it due to its ties to Jakes.

A lot of people don't know about them. What's even sadder is that even when they are told, they don't seem to care much.

I do like their song, Crucified with Christ, though.

and my point is that you could find a hundred other titles and authors that go contrary to typical SBC thought.

Have you been to a LifeWay store recently? The reason I think it is an overreaction is because they most likely base it off of a customer complaint, not some policy. They have a general policy regarding content....but I think if they are going to be this way with one...they need to be a little more strict with all.

I don't think they need to be that strict, by the way. Which is my point, I don't think they are being consistent.

Last time I went into LifeWay ... the impression I got was Beth Moore all the time.

She gets prime displays for her teaching materials. By appearance, she is more sought after as a bible teach than any male.

Does anyone think that women only are the only one's buying her materials? If so, should there not be a special section for women only to buy Bible Study materials from female teachers.

IMO Beth Moore is a cash cow for LifeWay and she will be promoted and her materials prominently displayed.

I sense some slight hypocrisy concerning the mag cover, but I am open to being wrong.

No, I do not believe it is biblical for women to be elders.

    1. Lifeway pulled a magazine...as an American business, those who own and operate it still have a right to make decisions like that, right? We have not been taken over by socialists yet, have we? Although i do question the motives of congress, i would have to say "no".

    2. If Lifeway is selling books by people like Hagee, Jakes, etc (and they may very well, i don't know since i don't look for their materials)...as members of SBC churches (if you are), you can do something about it. It won't be as easy as a phone call, but you begin on the church level, move to the association level and on and make your voice heard. You have a vested interest in Lifeway as an SBC church member.

    3. This alleged "glass ceiling", didn't God make it? Wouldn't these women have to take that up with God and His word?

there's my 2 cents...which means i'm probably way over paid!
