Ole Pastor Al Martin provided a sermon that none to few felt was over the top regarding womens dress. 10 minutes in he goes into detail by describing what he considers modest & immodest womens dress. Please take a look at the sermon & let me know what you think.

Hallelujah and Hallelujah and I'm just 5 minutes in!!!!:applause::applause::applause:

Romans 14:13 13 Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.

Purity of motive does NOT cancel the effect of your appearance.

    His Counsel:
Loved it!!! I think he should have said underwear rather than panties just because I'm a prude  but otherwise , this is worthy of every CHRISTIAN HUSBAND and wife and daughter in every church in America listening to.

Nope. I just get to deal with the husbands and the wives and the sons and the daughters.

And I stressed Christian HUSBANDS in my response because that's who needs to take the lead.

I clicked the link thinking this would be yet another legalistic rant against women, only to find the preacher completely and humbly hits the nail right on the head!

Church should be the ONE SAFE PLACE where men should not have to hide their eyes, and sadly, I've noticed every single point the pastor brought up, being displayed right in the house of God. It's not just the "bus kids" or new converts, either. Over and over again I've seen the cleavage, the stretchy, huggy pants, short skirts, tight tops, revealing low-rise jeans and backless dresses in church and in the youth group. This is from wives and daughters of deacons, choir members, etc. These are folks who have been saved for years and years--people who should KNOW BETTER!

It is a sad time indeed, when pastors must preach against this trash in such a personal way because the men of the church aren't doing their jobs in leading their homes. I only wish the pastor had spent more time admonishing the men, because that is also where much of the fault lies. Would to God that Christian parents would stop letting the latest pop icons dictate what the family wears.

By the way, I did listen to the entire segment (around 30 minutes) and I'd be the first to complain if I thought this preacher was out of line.

So true. But there is a problem with this in the church. The dad says no and the mom tells him he's being an old fuddy duddy.

From skinny jeans to not leading the home, the men in the church have become pansified.

I don't know, Zaac. Most men who have the gumption to say something have wives who respect them enough to listen. From what I see, the men are too busy to take time to lead their homes, to train the children. It gets left up to the wife who may be unaware about such things.

So many kids go to school, come home to homework or a ballgame, then go to bed without really spending any quality time with their parents, the dads especially. Oh, and that's for kids who actually still have a dad at home. Lots of them only see him on weekends.

I want to make it clear from the outset that I believe what Martin said, needs to be said -- but not by him.

    1) Seems to me it bothers Pastor Martin than it bothers most men I know.

    2) Sermons devoted entirely to this subject matter dwell too much on this subject matter.

    3) Perhaps my church is different, but I don't see a lot of, if any, immodest dress.

    4) On occasion we will see a teen girl dressed somewhat inappropriately, though not what I would call "immodestly."

    5) Upon seeing such a teen, I will turn to my wife and say, "Where were her parents this morning when she got dressed?"

    6) Whereupon, it *occurs to me the girl may be the only member of her family at church that day, she may be the only member of her family ever at church.

    7) That being the case, I'm grateful she's there to hear the gospel, but wish one of her friends would pull her aside and have a word with her.

    8) On occasion we will see a young woman come in practically off the street, also dressed inappropriately though not immodestly.

    9) Again it *occurs to me to be grateful she is there to hear the gospel. *Someone will befriend her and have a word.

    10) While Peter speaks of women dressing modestly and according to their "class" or station in society, he is mostly addressing their need to display their inner beauty in Christ.

    11) Martin spent way too much time talking about female body parts and the way they show them off, and missed the real point of his choice of Scripture to boot.

    12) Yes, what he said needs to be said -- but by women to other women.

*Note: Bonus points if you know the source of those things that "occur to me" and who will befriend the beyond-teen-years woman.

He did go into great detail did he not? And I agree that the women in the church need to set the modesty standards. If your not holding it, then why cant the women intervene....take the sister aside and instruct her. Yea the husband should also be there to state the obvious but you have to admit, the wife can just as easily ignore his advise.

What conserned me with Pastor Martins sermon was the strained and almost hysterical tone in his instructions? I don't know what that was all about and I don't want to go there.....see my idea of modesty may differ from his and from my wife's. Just watch the morning shows....particullarly Fox programming.....do you think the skirts are too short?

Yes, I was wondering, if you're that concerned and disturbed by it, why not say something to the men's ministry leader and have him talk to the husband about this, and see if he's concerned. If he's not, then it's probably a waste of time to say anything at all.
He did see a bit worked up about it. Made me wonder what, exactly, was "working him up."
Not for the current style, no, though sometimes when I happen to catch Megyn Kelly in primetime, I do wonder if she's seeking viewers based on her education, analysis and intelligence -- or those short-short hemlines.

She's married. She goes to church. Oh well ...

I'm of the firm belief that if it's in God's word the PASTOR needs to speak to it. One of the reasons the stuff proliferates within the church is that pastors never say anything.

From what I understand, he took allot of heat for it. I also heard there are issues behind it that lead to it....ones I wont go into. Now remember he was 40 years in the pulpit at that particular church. Why would he suddenly make this (way women dress) his topic of discussion?

Also what is indecent and immodest dress to some (and this might be generational) might not be for others. Personally, I felt his vividly descriptions were too much and unnecessary....it put me in mind of nuns measuring hemn lines of little girls uniforms when I was a kid. I am surprised he didn't go into high heeled shoes and open towed shoes being immodest. In my eyes he came off sounding like a letch (sic) rather than a kind hearted father attempting to instruct...perhaps the old saying about protesting too much has some merit here.

Our pastor did a modesty sermon about seven years ago. With the way the women and girls dress, he could probably stand to give one every 6 months.

You get a little bit more leeway when you've been some place for 40 years. For sure, he's like family to probably everyone there so he can speak quite frankly to these people as thought hey were his children.

But one of the reasons this stuff perpetuates is that we don't want the pastor to say anything. Ya'll know what immodest is and he did a good job of describing some of the tell-tale signs of when something is immodest.

This wasn't about generational. This was about the very wrong that he spoke to. We've let the culture tell us that certain things are okay for church just because everybody outside the church is doing it.

Kudos to him for doing what weak-willed husbands refuse to do for fear of upsetting their wives. It's okay if God is upset with you. But let's not upset our wives and daughters by demanding that a standard of Godliness be appropriated to their dress.

It's been extremely rare that I've agreed with Zaac, but I've been pretty much side by side with him on this topic.

    A couple of main points:
If it's in the bible - preach it!!!!!
The church has allowed the dress standards to drift too close to the world!!!!

I personally appreciated the candor with which he spoke; I seriously doubt that anyone could say they did not grasp his meaning.

Yes, I'm married, but this is not a problem with either my wife or daughter (45 YO), but when my daughter was a teen, she wanted to buy a pair of those fitted tight jeans, and she rejected my comments as being just an old fogey. However she asked her brother, just 2 years her junior, what he thought. Thankfully, he proceeded to tell her, and what she did not believe from me, he convinced her of drastically. She always dressed very modestly from that time forward.

My church is between pastors right now, but I'm seriously thinking of suggesting to our new pastor when he comes to either show this video or preach a similar sermon to the congregation.

I'm 77 years old, but I still have to fight some of the more blatant suggestive dressings of a few of our females, so I'm fully in agreement with this pastor.

I think that's a great idea. This is something that I again believe needs to be seen by every evangelical, Bible believing church that exists. It is just that big of a problem within the church.

The problem with that is Peter wasn't really talking about modesty of dress. He was talking about the "adornment of the heart."

The message was a waste of time, and probably inappropriate the way it was delivered. As EW&F and I pointed out, Martin was awfully worked up and excited about the sermon -- which makes us wonder exactly what was going on there.

The only thing it made me wonder is why so few pastors address this issue? As he mentioned, dress can be a stumbling block and it's a shame that so many women in the church don't care.

I expect to see the skin tight clothing and folks trying to show off their behinds, legs and their bosoms at the gym. But it just shouldn't be like this at church.

I think you and Martin both overestimate how many women actually come to church dressed inappropriately, and two, as I said earlier, this isn't a message to preach from the pulpit. This is a message that should be given through the women's ministry, or by a husband to his wife.
I seriously doubt you've got people wearing Nike Trainingwear or Under Armour to church.
