I have always felt proud to be an American, and felt the years of service were part of my obligation to this country. It has nothing to do with who is in office or who is running for the office.

==So? Why does it matter whether or not he wears a pin on his jacket?

He is a sad example of an American.

I will assume you both have on your pin right now. . .

I could really care less who wears a pin and who don't. Pins matter not. Anyone could put a pin of the flag on their suit and it does not make them a good leader, it does not make them a good American, it just simply makes them a guy/gal with a pin.

There are many reasons why I do not support Obama, but him choosing to not wear a pin is not one of them.

It is not the fact that he doesn't wear one.. .but he REFUSES to.
I don't have mine on, but I would never refuse to wear one.

And you are right, there are many other reasons to not vote for him..

but it does show what is in his heart about his country....

USA vs UN... which would come first?
Everything I have seen out of him, he would put the UN first.

And that is a reason to not vote for him.

The refusal to not wear a flag, or not put his hand over his heart for the pledge of allegience is not a root problem, but it is a symptom of the real root problem.. .his priority is not the US.. but it is somewhere else. The Global community.

Then his wife is only proud of the US if her husband's certain conditions are met?

    This guy is trouble.

    Many reasons why....

==Where in the constitution does it state that those who do not wear American flag lapel pins are spitting "in the face" of all who serve in the military? If it is there I have never read it and I pretty sure I have read the whole thing. Personally I think these kind of things are silly. I am more interested in Obama's policies, or lack thereof, then I am in if he wears a lapel pin. But, then again, I have never been one to place a lot of importance on superficial things.

O NO!! I have found a picture, from a presidential debate, of John McCain not wearing an American flag lapel pin!! O my, and I thought he was a true patriot!! O well, I guess you never can tell.

    PICTURE HERE

That is, of course, sarcasm. However I think it is a good example of how silly this flap over Obama not wearing a lapel pin is.

John McCain is a true American hero and patriot and he does not have to wear a lapel pin to prove it. Neither, btw, does Barak Obama or anyone else.

No one who has posted in this thread seems to hear the context of race. As a caucasian who has worked with African-Americans for years, first as a campus minister and then as a local church pastor, I can tell you that there is in that community a tremendous disaffection from so much that has happened and is still happening with regard to race. When I hear Michelle Obama speak about finally beginning to be proud of this nation, I hear it over against a massive suspicion among African-Americans. So many feel, deep down, that they are not going to get justice in this nation. So now, one of them says, at last another level of justice seems to be coming.

That said, I need to hurry on and say that for many African-Americans, there is a "lover's quarrel" with America. Did they not love this nation and its founding ideals, they would have written it off completely. But they do not. They still hope for better.

It is a bit like Jefferson's word, "I tremble for my country when I think that God is just."

Maybe you have enough to wear some as earrings and a nose ring for your next patriotic, barn burning sermon.

Gotta give her credit for this.... http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

She explains she has always loved America...

And yes, I probably was too harsh before...

I am just so concerned that he will be president.

No doubt about it. God puts in the hearts of the voters who He wants in office. It could be a blessing or a curse, but probably who we deserve as a country.

I think that it matters to some right-wingers because they care more about superficial patriotism than the real thing. Some right-wingers preferred deferments during the Vietnam War than to do the patriot thing and serve these United States in the military like my brother and brother-in-law did.

I agree. But I would be troubled by someone who (allegedly) wants to lead our country and (allegedly) doesn't wear a flag or pledge allegiance because he is disaffected.

I'm not saying this is true of Obama. Like you, my problem with him is over his big brother, nanny state, "let's make up interpretations to the constitution and increase govt intrusion/dependance" song and dance.

    Did you serve your country??

I have been switching mine from suit to suit, matter of fact, I have three. Michele Obama was blessed to go to Princeton, and then to Harvard. If anyone has reached the American dream, she has. It was a terrible statement and not a slip of the tongue either, for she said it before. It was part of her stump speech.

It is not Obama not wearing the flag, its his statement of refusal to wear the pin over the war. I wonder how the boys over there dying feel about hearing him making statements that he would not wear a flag pin. The people made a mistake once, spitting on the troops coming home from Vietnam and this just seems to be more spitting to me.
