I've seen the thread on favorite Gospel tunes. How about a list of your favorite Gospel groups. I have just switched my musical listening from old rock to Gospel and Bluegrass and am looking for some new(old) music. I have just found 1 Gospel group I like so far.

    Booker Family

    How about it? [IMG]

If you like Bluegrass, then you'd probably like Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver.

The Stanley Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, Front Range and IIIrd Tyme Out also have excellent gospel albums out.

Hey thanks Keeper ... I was looking for something like this.

This sight is great. Had a chance to listen to sound clips of The Bishops (Oh what a Glad Day, Saw a Lot of Happy People, and Howard Gray)I am definitely going to pick up this cd. :D :D :D

Man, I must be a dinosaur. Didn't recognize anyone mentioned til someone brought up the Gaithers. [IMG]

But their new Vocal Band would be under Rock, not Blue Grass, right?

So help me out . . is "Gospel" a particular sub-sect of Christian music? If you would define its parameters I might be able to figure out if I have a favorite!

    Is it like:
    Christian Rock
    Christian Blues
    Christian Rap
    Christian Southern Quartet
    then
    Christian Gospel??

Help me, Rhonda, help, help me Rhonda (ooh, now you know what I DO listen to . . . ) ;)

So if I can understand the lyrics it probably isn't Gospel, right?

Then, in all honesty, I know of no such group. Maybe I'll just continue to monitor this thread and a name will pop up that I do know.

Music is sure an eclectic blend . . .

(aside) Make note to self. You ARE a dinosaur. [IMG]

Christian Contemperary= Al Densen, Twila Paris, Ray Boltz

Jennifer Knapp... Now there is one lady I enjoy listening to.

I wonder if Allison Krauss has done a Gospel cd.

Stephen, Alison's never released an entire album of Gospel tunes, although she always includes at least one on each album.

She did produce a great Gospel album by the Cox family called, "Everybody's Reaching Out for Someone". She also appears as a part of the "family" on the album.

    Definitely worth checking out.

War...they sort of are....there's kind of a split with alternitive music...they are in the sort of category.

Mothy, well whatever you may have your opinions on it since everyone else does too hehe

I've got to assume that you don't listen to a whole lot of alternative music.

I'm not a fan of alternative or the robo-pop that St. James and Knapp do but I can tell you that if you gave this stuff to people who do listen to alternative and told them it was alternative, they wouldn't agree.

Those two are about as pop as you can get.
