Posts like that coming from someone who thinks the word of God is just "a book of words" have little credibility.

It is a book of words, not pictures. It is the interpretation of these words that is important. You should try reading it as a wholein a prayful receptive manner and thereby let God teach you instead of reading it in part finding proof texts to support your own view of the world. It would make a new man of God out of you.

You could at least be honest about the context in which you made those words. You know exactly what I was referring to. No one who holds the Word of God dear to His heart says it is just " a book of words". You have no idea how I read. However we know by your own words just what scripture means to you. And you hold your personal experiences equal to if not higher than scripture. So save your tripe for someone else who doesn't know about your low view of scripture.

Yup. The old, "I'm gonna get destroyed if I stay on this subject so I better change it" routine.

The book, the physical book, is a book of words that we read and hold dear and use to help us discern how we are to live our lives. Christ's life is our greatest example and we should follow his example. We are to put our faith in him and not in worldly institutions, i.e. the military, for instance.

Your belief in your security coming from the military and might are not Christian, and your hatred of the poor and downtrodden are not Christian. Try reading with a mind to let God help you. It will make a new man of God out of you.

My faith is in Christ and surely not in your opinions which often have nothing to do with Christ.

I hold that your view of scripture is very low as you profess so few beliefs that can be truely found in scripture.

Yup. Conservatives aren't only stupid, we hate the poor.

First of all, Christ's life and teachings wouldn't mean a hill of beans without his death & resurrection. That is my focus.

Second, where does Christ bless the able-bodied who chose to live off the responsible ?

Third, I am confident that if you actually stuck around for an honest debate, any Bible-drilled poster could easily show that your opinion is contrary to Christ's parables, and sermons.

Wrong. It is the revelation given by God to glorify Him. It is not about us. Your man centered gospel is not found in scripture anywhere. The difference between the fundamentalist and the liberal is the liberal says the end of the gospel is the happiness of man. The fundamentalist says what the Bible says that the end of the gospel is the glory of God.

While you are at it do not put your faith in your car to get you around tomorrow. Do not put your faith in the couch to hold your backside up off the floor.

You do not know what my belief is concerning the military. But your belief in your own personal experiences bypasses both the Word of God and the Holy Ghost.

Show me my hatred of the poor. I have news for you. Government does not equal love of the poor. Your reliance on government is not Christian.

Your faith is based on just "a book of words". Not much faith there.

Since you are not even aware of the intent of scripture (which is based on your low view of it) you would hardly know what can truely be found in scripture.

Okay fellas, we are getting very close to personal attacks on both sides here. Please stay on topic and discuss the issues, not each other's spirituality.

The topic is "Republican intellectualism," not whether political liberals or conservatives are more spiritual.

Perhaps the best Republician intellectual was William F. Buckley. He did love to use big words, but he was at least rational and his positions well thought out ... not that I always agreed or disagreed with him. But I did respect his intellect. I am not sure there are any Republician intellectual of his caliber alive today. The National Review should be read regardless of whether a person is a liberal or conservative. It is good to be informed on both sides of any issue.
