I don't think anyone's getting a pass. There's just so many choices throughout the biblical narrative. I imagine if you could ask Uriah he'd say David was the most evil person.

It is certainly a paradox that David, a man after God's own heart, would commit adultery and murder in order to achieve it. There are many, many lost people that never did that. The way we look at things is certainly different than the Lord. Another person that comes to mind as the most evil, above all the OT characters is Caiaphas, the high priest at the crucifixion. Yes, there were many, many OT evil kings of Israel, Judah, and other nations. However, they were openly evil and everyone knew exactly what to expect from them. The Pharisees on the other hand, were pretending to be something they were not, the keeper of God's law. If one thinks about how the Lord would answer this question, I think old Caiaphas would be at or near the top.

Christ Himself, who is God, gives us a hint. He got visibly angry at two situations, making a buck off the house of God, and the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. Terms like "whitewashed tombs" and "brood of vipers" is a description Christ saved for this group alone. If one really gets into the verses that record the exchange of words between Jesus and the religious leaders of the day, one can feel the sparks flying. It is the most confrontational Christ got with anyone, more than the prostitute, tax collectors, and the lower class. Even Pilate, it is clear the Lord felt pity for, although Christ did let Pilate know exactly where his power came from.

I would say from the Lord's point of view, just going by Christ's words, the Pharisees are way up there on the most evil list.

In the previous post, my vote goes to the Pharisees.

All Pharisees were not bad. There were some significant good ones such as Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea --not to mention Paul himself long after his conversion (see Acts 23:6)

Well, apparently you didn't read the OP carefully enough. A group (Pharisees) is not a person.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Adam!!!

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, ...

Would this not then be enough to make the prize as the most evil person in the Bible?

Seems to me that everyone else is merely following their depraved fallen down dead nature, but Adam purposely plunged every living soul into death - and caused the very Lord Jesus Christ to die "that some might be saved."

Ah,so you're making Adam the Fall-guy,huh? (Pun intended.)

Seriously,if you had been the first person instead of Adam would you have done a better job?

    I don't have a clue.

I suppose the same question could be asked about any Biblical character.

I do know that Adam "listened to the voice of (his) wife" rather than relying upon the evening talks between God and he.

I wonder how many men believers have made the same mistake?

You are getting into dangerous territory with the above. I will let the women on the BB make their own observations.

So was Eve the second most evil person? Afterall,1 Tim. 2:14 says:"And Adam was not the one deceived;it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." (NIV) Adam is the Federal Head, but Eve bears some responsibility.

Pharoah over Moses should rank high on this list...

Eve "fell into" sin being tricked. Two results: 1) Women are to be under the authority of man and not usurp that authority. 2) Child birth pain.

Adam wasn't tricked; he heeded the wrong voice - he listened to Eve rather than God. Two results: 1) Adam died both spiritually and later physically and passed that condition upon all humankind (the result of not listening to God). 2) Ground would grudgingly give a farmer's crop (result of eating the fruit).

Eve doesn't bear responsibility other than in the two areas above.

Adam is the one who is solely responsible for death and sin being a part of every human born.

Yeah, she said "Curse God and die." That's rather wicked. It's a shame when Job had everything and a lot more restored to him (and then some!)that the Lord didn't give him a new wife.
