Yo dawgs! wassupp?!? i just wanted to know what style of music and which bands y'all like.

personally, my favorite style of music is either rap or rock, but i also love worship, well, it's all worship of course. techno is cool too, remix's also, all kinds of style's but i don't like country, jazz, classical, all types of those. i don't know why, it just gets to my brain and well, i don't know... lol. let's see, what bands DO i like? Newsboys for one, Audio Adrenaline, Mercy Me, The Cross Movement, Acoustic Worship, DCTalk, Toby Mac, Michael Tait, Skillet, Whiteheart, some of Deleriou5? and those are about all i listen to. they're good stuff, i love the worship stuff. it all helps me, that's what counts, as long as it helps the person in their personal walk with Jesus Christ, then the music is ok, except if it's secular music, 'cuz that music is never gonna glorify The Lord Jesus Christ. please reply, love ta hear from y'all...

I may be wrong, but I think Josh may be refering to the choice groups stated in the first post.?. I do not listen to these groups, although a lot of Christians do.... more because even though the words may be good, the beat may not be. We must remember that Satan is a chief musician, given a gift by God, but, when he fell, so did his music. If it sounds of the world, looks of the world, then it more than likely is. For every thing God uses Satan has a counterfiet to throw us off.

Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while other fought to win the prize and sailed through bloody seas.

Christianity is not a joke.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

2 Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

There is a race to be run, there is a battle to be fought!!

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Amen Miss Peggy!
There isn't a soul alive who can put ungodly, worldly mess in their mind and expect to live for Christ.
People can't have both. Some folks need to make a choice. Who are they gonna serve? Who's side are they on?
I can only pray more will chose this verse's words. I'll end with that.

Forgive me if I oversimplify what is being said here...is this a suggestion that some contemporary Christian music, though lyrically uplifting, is still Satan's work in disguise?

How does a young person discern this for him/herself? Or COULD this simply be a generational difference in "taste?"

Some is taste....
I am sad to say that a lot of IFB churches frown upon CCM, yet have oodles of what I call Country Christian music! This is a double standard.
I watch carefully what I listen to... not only should the words uplift, but the beat should also. A lot of todays beats stem from pagan worship services that were used to work people up in a frenzy... and I will leave it at that being as young people's eyes are reading this. Anywho... I just do not believe that the Devil was the " chior leader in heaven" is a coincidence, and since he is the " prince and power of the air" we should beware.
Beware: what we watch, read, listen to, hang around with, etc. The devil is our adversary walking about seeking whom he may devour! P.S I have a lot of trouble with this concept myself, music is my weakness, but I also know of it's effects: good&bad! The Lord left us in this world to lead others to Him, not become a part of it. P.S. I don't mean to live like hermits either!LOL
And, my advice for a teen is to read your Bible, Pray, and keep yourself unspotted from the world, and the LORD will guide you in what is and is not acceptable in His sight.
P.S I am only 23, not a old foggie! LOL [IMG]

hello again everyone...

every single song in the whole wide world is gonna have a beat, no matter what. i mean, when i sit in church, and i go to a IFB church, the only thing they sing there is hymns, nothing wrong with that, and they only play the piano, nothing wrong with that either. but the thing is, those have beats also, maybe not as much as say, hip-hop or rap or course, but they still have beats to them. you're not gonna get away from the BEAT. that's final, you're not, even if you try your hardest, there is always gonna be a beat in any style of music. BUT, the things i look out for are of course the lyrics, if it's not glorifyin' the Lord Jesus Christ then i dont listen to it, the thing is, there can be, and i have music that does this, the bands use metaphors or similies to try and help the listeners to better understand how God is, how much He Loves them, things like that. Secondly i look for the style, or you could say the 'beat', some beats i like, such as the worship, the contemporary music, the soft stuff you know, other times i like styles such as hip-hop/rap, but only if im in the mood. The thing is, i have to watch out for the lyrics, it don't matter 'bout the beat, as long as you are comfortable with that beat, and the music is helping you to grow with the Lord Jesus Christ. Here is a song and it's lyrics from a band called 'Audio Adrenaline':

here is the link, i hope it works, if not then go to Audio Adrenaline Discography but here is the song: The Houseplant Song

I believe that no matter what the beat is, 'cuz what's the beat gonna do to you? that if it's Glorifying the Lord God of Israel then it's great for me...

Thnx.

Hello,
I've read everyones post on this subject and I'm not going to try and argue. I will be honest and say that I don't believe in the new contemporary groups. Even their names are not Christ honoring. I just wanted to ask a question to you eyesonJesus. I don't mean to be mean or sarcastic cause I'm sure you're a very nice person. But you say that you don't care about the beat as long as it's Christ honoring and lifts up the name of Jesus. But that song you showed us...the one about the houseplant. I don't understand...it doesn't even have Jesus's name in there anywhere. I was just wondering. Have a nice day!

Hey Nu Thang, some of those bands you listed are really good, I particularly like Skillet, have you heard their new CD Collide? Wicked good. Some other bands you might want to check out that aren't so well known: Switchfoot, Sanctus Real, 12 Stones, 38th Parallel (rap core, ala Linkin Park), Supertones (ska), Insyderz (ska, best worship music on the planet), POD, Kutless, The Benjamin Gate, Thousand Foot Krutch, Pillar, Dogwood (punk), SuperChic[k]. Those are most of the bands I listen to, all fairly straight forward rock other than those I noted as otherwise.
What makes a beat good or bad? How do you decide?
Just curious what verses you're referring to, I've heard people say it but never seen the verse.

Satan is a deceiver right? He's not very good at it if all you need to know whether it's good or not is whether it sounds and looks like the world. In fact, that's downright lousy deception. In order to be deceptive, you want to work in a way that people cannot easily discern what is true and false. If I were Satan, and it was truly possible that certain beats were "evil" as long as they sounded like the world, I would simply change the world's music to sound like hymns. Suddenly the Christian music sounds just like the world's, making it "evil," and the Christians would have no clue what to do! What a pickle! Suddenly all music is evil!

LOL!! First of all, isn't the Holy Ghost just as much God as Jesus is? Second, does a song have to specifically mention Jesus to lift him up? If I were to tell you to go out and witness to people, wouldn't that be lifting up Jesus indirectly? Third, do you really not understand the message of the song? Do this for me, read through the lyrics, and see if you can figure out what message the song is trying to convey, then tell me whether or not that message is Godly.

P.S. Have you ever heard the band Living Sacrifice? They just broke up, but they were a really good hardcore metal rock band. Not my style of music, but they were pulled it off better than any other Christian band I've heard.

I should mention that while most of the band I mentioned aren't as well known among Christians, POD and Switchfoot are two of the most recognizable Christian bands outside of the Christian mini-culture.

Hello,

JonathanDT...I figured someone would write back who did not agree with what I had to say but that's okay. Yes Jesus and the Holy Ghost are the same but I think you failed to realize what I was saying by saying that the song doesn't lift Christ up. I mean it barely says anything about Christ or God...I mean compare that song to a song like the Old Rugged Cross. I believe the old Hymn tells the story of Christ and lifts Him up much more. We all can have our own opinions. Mine are just different. I didn't mean to offend you. And no I've never heard of the band a Living Sacrifice. My board name has nothing to do with that band. My name is that because of Romans 12:1,2. (KJV) It's my life verse and I want to be a living sacrifice for Christ and live for Him. I hope you have a great day!

hello again evry one, sorry for my delay of post, but i've been quite busy lately... i must explain something, 'eyes on Jesus' and 'nu thang' (that's me) are good friends, we were accidently on eachothers account that week... sorry.

anyways, back to the topic. i agree with DT, how can the beat be "evil or good" ? and the song "old rugged cross" is not a very good song because it says something like "follow the cross" or "keep your eyes on the cross" something like that, i don't know the exact words because i don't sing it in church, it offends me, this is why, i'd rather look to Jesus, not the cross, and rather than following the cross, follow Jesus instead... just a thought, If i am wrong on the words, please correct me on the words...

Hey DT, nice bands, i listen to some of those, but havn't heard of some of them. i'll look into it...

now for the song i posted, "the houseplant song" the message, 'DT, i don't know if you want me to answer or what... so here goes' ---> the moral of this song is to witness, that's what i get out of it, don't worry about what the style of music is, or even worry about anything else for that matter, just Follow Jesus and fulfill the Great Commish. Amen to that, i praise God for the worship, or 'Extreme Worship' as i've heard it been called, because it helps me in my walk with God. there are many things i'm missing, so if you see something that i am not explaining, please point it out for me and i shall try to explain soon... by the way, i just wanted to through in one of my fav. verses. I Timothy 6:12 ,KJV style. thanks. nu thang...

Hello and good morning to you all.

this song is not right, and i'll explain again... i don't want to 'cherish the old rugged cross' because i'd much rather cherish my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and since the cross is a symbol of death, torture and many other things other than life, i don't want to 'cling to the old rugged cross and exchange it someday for a crown.' it just doesn't work. i have a question, could you please show me a verse that says to 'cherish the old rugged cross' and/or 'cling to the old rugged cross' ? i'm confused, i would rather love to cling to Jesus. also, there is another hymn out there, it's in our churches hymnal, that even says that the cross is a 'cruel cross', i'll get that for you soon. it's a wonderin' kind of thing that goes on in my head alot. please explain. also, in the bible, i'm sorry, i don't know the verses, just know what they say, the bible says that we are to remember his 'resurecction.' that's all i have to say right now, but i have to go now, so thanks for the reply. have a nice day...
