    hey everybody,

this on a different note this time. i'm helping out with youth group on friday nights.

and the music is gettin a little stale - only because we have been singing the same exact songs for the past three months. and we don't have any others for the youth.

plus we sing basically the same ones in church service.

anyone have any suggestions for songs to play in either a church service or youth group?

preferably no hymns please - only because we have all the hymns - and we play them already.

any choruses? i know "Today" is a good song.. any others?

    please help me out here.

Wow... you realize that you're just giving a loaded pistol to whoever wants to blow your mind.

I would start by checking out Passion stuff (Tomlin, Crowder, Hall, Nockels) and then move into some Hillsong and Mercy Me. Make sure you use a theological filter, and make sure the song says what you want it to say. There should be alot from there to choose from.

    Dear Gekko,

You might want to check out http://www.worshipmusic.com for contemporary worship music in CD's and song books. There are plenty of them to choose from.

    I hope that this helps!

    In Christ,

    Dale

    Hi Gekko,
If you're looking for fun and participatory songs, check out Bryan Hitch's music. Our youth group loves his style.

Check out intergritymusic.com they may have some praise music you can work with there. Other than that...the passion and hillsong ideas are pretty good too.

Try the Scottish Psalter. There are some songs there.

You have all the hymns and play them already? And yet you have been playing the same songs for the last three months??? Something is not computing there. There are so many great hymns that if you sang several every week you would have enough for more than a year without repeating any of them.

I would be very hesitant to search for something new. Many new songs have a very time bound quality because they are so pop-oriented. They get stale because they are. The great old hymns such as "And Can It Be" or "Praise to the Lord" never get old to maturing believers. There are so many that could be listed and it would serve your youth group much better than the pop music prevalent today.

Remember, in youth work, our responsibility is not to give them candy for their senses, but food for their soul. Too many ministries are built on trying not to be boring, but rather fun. Disciples aren't made at parties. They are made at the grindstone.

    New Music

Go to www.spin360.com I believe is the website. They put out music quarterly that is simply awesome. It comes with Power Point files and has both the music with someone singing and just the music. I used it as a youth pastor and if I thought I could get my people to go for it before we got a projector system I would use it now. It is simply great stuff, not very traditional, some more contemporary than others, and they even take the tired old hymns and give them a new arraingment so that they can speak to a new generation.
