Westcott and Hort invented “text families” of manuscripts. They put many MSS in 4 families of MSS without the evidences because they would make the Textus Receptus look bad.

“Family” and “Text type” differ each other. What family of MSS did 5,000+ MSS belong to? Text Type is the readings from which manuscripts. Well, we use terms like “Byzantine Text, Traditional Text, Received Text, Antiochan Text” to refer to the Greek text associated with this region and tradition. On other hand, famous 2 MSS, B and Aleph are that we called them, “Alexandrian.”

95-99% of all manuscripts favored the Received Text because of the readings, not family of manuscripts. The Received Text is based on 5,210 out of 5,255 manuscripts because of the readings, not family of MSS.

Are the terms used that differently? Are not both terms used to group manuscripts that are claimed to relate to each by having the same type text?

    D. A. Waite also claimed: "there is no such thing as 'Text type.'" (A Critical Answer to Michael Sproul's God's Word Preserved, P. 118), even though he used a similar expression "type of text." Referring to "Text type," Waite claimed: "This is the purely hypothetical guesswork initiated by theological heretics Westcott and Hort" (Ibid.).

Yes, they ascribed as “group,” but define differently. Family means related to each other. Type means sharing similar characteristics, or having particular characteristics.
My opinion is that Dr. Waite used terms and said TR is from a type of text. When he spoke of TR, some people would know what he talked about these manuscripts. If W/H did not invent “family” of manuscripts, Dr Waite would not use this terms.
