I would think if he had intermediaries do the actual work of negotiation and then he approved it, it would not be double speak. This is what he did when the Bush/Obama tax cuts were going to expire on Dec 31, 2012.

Just by reading that statement that is how I interpret it. Why isn't that what he means?

He is pretending to work with the GOP ie "I will compromise" while not actually doing anything to work with the GOP is "I will not negotiate".

    It is double speak.

old Indian Chief said it best

"Man in Washington speak with fork tongue!!"

Compromise makes him look better in front of the camera and in front of all the dem's who ga ga goo goo at his every word---you know---those who spend their careers shinin' and lickin' the leader's boots!!

Negotiate sounds like desperation---like the notion of negotiating terms of surrender----negotiate sounds like defeat for the community organizer!!

Why should he cooperate with a party that has had as its ONLY objective to oppose everything he proposed? Trying to tear down a 4 year-old law in exchange for voting to pay America's debts isn't a reasonable request from the Republican. If we default on our debt history will regard the House Republicans as traitors.

that means "I will let the Speaker of the House choose which pen to use"

Why oppose everything? Because most of what Obama has proprosed had been bad policies.

You forgot to mention the arm twisting to pass the law. You forgot to mention that it just had to be passed on Dec 24 (early in the moring?) What was so important it had to be passed on Christmas Eve. couldnt it have waited a week or so - after the Christmas break? You forgot to mention that most members actually had not read the entire bill (we must pass it so we know what is in it).
You forgot to mention that dozens of labor unions have been exempted.
    You have forgotten to mention.....

Obama is childish. These dealings should be done behind closed doors but we have a President who loves the camera more than anything else. Clearly the Democrats are beginning to lose over the heavy-handed shutdown. A better tactic would have been if the Democrats had made moves to keep things open that the public enjoys the most, such as parks. The cuts to the military funerals are disgusting.

Generaly yes, but let them sit down in private to work out basic details.

One misspoken word - by either party - and the media goes wild.

Yes, the most infamous statement of all

...we have to pass the bill to see what's in it...

and it was indeed passed without the informed consent of the governed - we the people.

Now that we have seen a little of what's in it we can also see that we were sold a bill of goods (don't pardon the pun).

This is what happens when you elect a community organizer to public office. They've always been against everything. They don't know how to be "for" anything, so they keep up the monologue, the demonizing demagoguery, the reframing of opponents' comments (translate: lying about what the opponents said) then answering the lie, and calling that debate.

He's never had a real job, never run a real business, never stepped a single pinkie into the real world. He's clueless, mindless, and out of touch. His "legacy" which seems so concerned about, is that he will be remembered as the biggest failure of this, or the last, century.
