    Officials: Obama to ask Gates to stay at Pentagon

    CHICAGO – Seeking experience in wartime, President-elect Barack Obama intends to re-enlist Defense Secretary Robert Gates as head of the Pentagon — if only temporarily — and has chosen a retired Marine general to be White House national security adviser, officials said Tuesday.

    Gates and retired Gen. James Jones would bring decades of experience to the administration of a 47-year-old commander in chief who campaigned on a pledge to redeploy combat troops in Iraq within 16 months while simultaneously ramping up the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan.

    While Gates has accepted Obama's appointment, it was not clear that Jones had done the same.

    More "change" away from the policies of Bush over at the Pentagon, huh?

    The next thing you know, he'll adopt McCain's plan to keep the Bush tax cuts on those wealthy people, appoint a bunch of former Clinton officals in his adminstration and make Hillary Sec. of State.

    Ken, Obama could ramp up the war in Iraq claiming we're on the verge of finding WMDs and you'd hail it :laugh:

    Obama could wear bell-bottoms and you'd call it a brilliant fashion move :laugh:

    Obama could put a originalist/constructionist on the Supreme Court and you'd still....no wait....never mind :laugh:

    Still have not seen any signs of change this just looks like he is keeping a Bush cabinet member (not a bad on either) and the rest are Clintonites. No change just same old same old. But I am not sure I would like the change he has in mind anyways, I do like my freedom and love my country.

    According to the Obamanites the war in Iraq was unjust and is totally lost and all the terrorists are in Afghanistan and we're not doing anything there, etc. They're just as wrong today as they've been for years. National defense is at the bottom of the pile for the Obamanites so maybe Gates is the token they keep for a while. The biggest national defense issue for Obamanites will be to give homosexuals full recognition in the military and free the detainees at Gitmo for all that terrible treatment they've been receiving. The focus will be on social re-design. This will be more irreversible damage.
