On this day in 1945 the remaining 7650 sick or starving prisoners at the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz, Poland, were liberated by Soviet troops.

Many people do not know, or have forgotten there were two camps, Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau. Birkenau was built because the old military post in the village of Auschwitz was too small and the furnaces could not keep up with the number of bodies of people who had been killed.

Brikenau, built with wood, is much larger with only a few building remaining. The brick buildings at Auschwitz still stand and many are open to tourists.

It is almost impossible for me to believe there are people who still don't believe any of this happened. :(
